GUNNM:

no possibility of you getting a hearing aid?

I don't think it's a volume thing for him since he said "speech".

My dad just got some of those and I couldn't imagine having to drop (3k per ear) 6k on them.  Thank you health care system!

People don't read the whole OP. They read about 2 sentences and make their reply based on that.

Just to add to the venting... my mum is legally deaf, has been since she was about 30. The video games thing is bad enough... but I'm more pissed off by netflix... and video on demand content in general. Since it's not really regulated, that means they don't have to subtitle it.

With all the damn improvements netflix's online content delivery is making, it would be really nice to see them actually give a damn about hearing impaired or second language people who might need subtitles, *especially* if they're going to move to a digital content base. Even *hulu* does subtitles on major shows, for the love of god.

... and don't get me started on companies who are too damned cheap to spring for subtitles in their dvds, but go for the closed captioning instead. Because, obviously, deaf people have no interest in watching a *decent picture*... which of course precludes the old closed captioning system from working.

Edit: And, as far as hearing aids... even the digital ones can only clarify voices and speech so much... and that's only for certain problems with hearing. Speech is difficult for my mother to understand, unless she's using her hearing aids *and* watching the persons face. Television is much more difficult.

I'm hard on hearing as well, and it furiates me when games don't have subtitles. I can make out about 3/4 of the words but still.

I also am disappointed when games don't have subtitles. I use them all the time.

I have four noisy children, so hearing dialogue can be challenging. Plus, if it's a game I can't let the kids watch, I tend to play it when everyone's in bed. That means keeping the volume down.

I definitely find subtitles a must.

I have a wife who thinks games are noisy :)

I have send an e-mail to the DICE & EA company about this and also link this thread to them:) , I also do wonder why the game didn't have subtitles, and even though I have no disability (no disrespect), doesn't mean I don't use them either, to me its a habit, I always use them.

I do wear hearing aids (side note: they are ridiculously expensive!) and it only restores some of my hearing and nowhere to the point where i can hear speech clearly.

I was considering sending an email to DICE and EA earlier today, but realized that it would probably fall upon deaf ears (pun intended).

In any case, I'm surprised that this thread has garnered this many responses at this time, and it is a pleasant surprise to see much support for this issue.

I'm a little disturbed to see the post earlier regarding Netflix's streaming service not being captioned. I just switched from BBO to Netflix due to bad service, and I'm just now finding out that their digital distribution is not even captioned?  This is not a deaf-friendly world.....

Maybe EA figures that

$ they have to spend to put in subtitles > $ they'd lose from deaf gamers

From reading the forum posts earlier, it seems that deaf gamers are not the only ones who use subtitles.

It would make sense to just add subtitles to each game.  Very similar to how nearly every show on television is required to have captioning.

I think most people dont realize that hearing loss is a disability that affects 8-9% of the population.

Obviously, that does not mean 8-9% of gamers would be affected, but it would still come out to be a significant portion of a potential audience.

I agree that having no subtitles is B.S.   For as long as this game has been out i am surprised that a subtitles patch was never made for the public.  I think more needs to be done for the handicapped/gaming community.

I am not hearing impared but i play all of my games with the subtitles option ON.  If developers can put in a Gore on/off option they should at least consider adding subtitles too.  The deaf community I'm sure would praise the game makers for letting them live the entire game story instead of a sloppy patchwork of "fill in the blanks"  leaving the gamer scratching his or her head saying, "what just happend?"

All games should have subtitles.  It should be a rule.

The turtle beach X1's have helped me with that and no one hears a thing.
