At least it would help people with slow connections load the pages faster. And probably reduce bandwidth usage or something.

GIFs are small files that load quickly.   I've never had an animated sig ever on any forum, but I don't quite understand why they are bad?  I don't see animated sigs as any more or less distracting than static images.   I personally spend more time looking over the goozex info sigs,

I actually just used adblock to block them due to me being at work.  Kinda hard to explain to my boss why there are hot asian chicks on my screen.

Perhaps it is my ancient-ness coming out, but in my opinion the general move from USENET to web forums has led to fragmentation that has already eroded discourse, and adding loads of obnoxious and flashy graphics serves *no* purpose in terms of adding to the level of discussion in these forums.  I'd be thrilled with a forum with no graphics of any type at all.

You should come work for my employer. Most images get blocked, except for those stupid animated sigs.

I'm fine with sigs. They're a good way to express something you're a fan of, give more info about yourself, or otherwise generate discussion.

Personally, I just like them to show off something I think is cool that I made. I'm not, though, a fan of the massive billboard style sigs. I try to keep my sig sizes about 200x600px. I forget the size I usually use, as I haven't made any in quite a long while.

Ironic that I will be removing my animated sig that was only put in place to express my opinion of how bad some of the other animated ones were getting. Smile

Kudos on the change!

I find that lots of the animated sig's are very distracting.  But they are distracting in a good way and dont bother me at all.  Oh well, at least we know who complained so we can gang beat them.  Get the pitchforks!!

I like the animated gifs. Without them I can't see using goozex anymore i'll probably stop playing video games in general now and join a monestary.

is this what you want goozex :(

Too bad! I was just considering the other day at joining the ranks of those with the multiple line stacked, animated, flashy sigs...it'd be like one of those cars with bumper stickers all over the back of it, except animated!

LOL

Technically you still can...just for a limited time.

Off topic, but about a change in forum rules.

I thought there was a silly rule in place to not bold selection of another user's text when quoting, but i've seen this pop up many times in the last week (Ex: see above).

I assume that the "rule" changed...again? Tongue Tied

No it hasn't, the rule is still "no touching someone else's post when you quote"  ... the mods are too busy creating ASCII art to police this rule Wink
