Correct me if I"m wrong, but as I understand it is that these people with Dummy accounts as listing new games, you do a trade, they get the points but you don't get the game????

Maybe for first-time, high value trades, goozex should mediate the trade. For example, the person would have to send the game to goozex, to veryify that the game exists and then goozex sends the person the game and releases the points for the trade.

the user never receives the points and i really REALLY don't want to have games shipped to Goozex HQ and vice versa; would cost more and take much longer

The way I was visioning it was that a credit card/bank account would only be an OPTION to verify the new users. If you have 3-5 positive trades, obviously you are more than likely a solid trader. The problem isn't new trades, i love new traders. New traders makes for more games and more trading. The probelm is the dummy accounts created so that #2 in line can become #1 in line when his dummy account matches the #1's request and ties him up for 2 weeks.

I understand that most of us started trading with a new game we wanted to get back a solid value for. Again, new traders aren't the probelm (which is why I haven't cancelled my trade or left negative feedback yet). I'm giving this guy a chance, but I just feel like it's probably a dummy account. Maybe not, and I'll be surprised. It's really not like a life or death issue, I'm just trying to suggest ways to improve this site :)

Its been a while since we got into the "verify new users" topic.  It is a bad idea.  Verifying with credit cards or bank accounts will discourage new users from joining the site.  Most people here would have never joined if you had to verify this way.  Also lots of new users first trades are 1000pt games so we shouldnt limit them to not being able to trade out 1000pt games.  The only reasonable solution to this problem would be Goozex putting more energy into smoking out who is making dummy accounts and bringing down the banhammer.

Using a credit card to just validate an account would eliminate the vast majority of fraud problems the site has. Mainly, the people who create multiple accounts.

Goozex wants to be as friendly as possible. Having to use a CC just to activate an account would indeed deter people. Yet there are times were it being open, also feels more like they just don't give a damn as long as they get the 1$ per trade. Everything from sending disc only for full package, to obvious fraud accounts, to getting matched with the same user 5 times in a row only to be timed out each time. All these hurt are the legitamite users of the the site and have shown no signs of ever being fixed.

But to note, I bet a few of you have benefitted from the fraud accounts also. When they make the accounts to move up in line. If you are behind them they also move up you too till the other users timeout. Not to mention, when they scam points. They'll probably take in games with high supply since they'll only have a week or two before all those points dissapear from games they "should' have sent out.

It's not new users at all, I've had lovely experiences with many. Funny enough, they are probably better than old ones. I don't buy new games thanks to Goozex outside of a few. The longer people seem to be here, the more willing they are to wait it out instead of buy it new.

Sure it tries to be friendly, just tell that to all the scammers. Also regarding having to use a credit card to validate certainty, people could have the option to do it right on the Goozex site or validate on a secure server page, (their own or a third-parties). Since I know identity theft is the first thing that comes to mind when you have no security on any site without any encryption. Adding this less scamming would come to play and a high reduction in screw-overs would be sure to occur, hopefully Zanna really puts strong consideration into this.

You're overlooking that people DO NOT like simply throwing their Credit Card info out there, especially on an unfamiliar site in order to join it.  This would steer new members away.

That is the major point. Whenever I'm new to an e-Commerce site, I either use PayPal/Google Checkout if they provide it, or generate a virtual card from my bank. If the site does not warrant to go through the effort, I just move on to another one.

I'd never have started Gooxes if it were not for the simplicity (and the 100 points bonusBig Smile )

I understand your frustration. I requested a game and got 3 new members consecutively. All of which never responded my request for the game. However, there's nothing you can accurately do to distinguish the lazy from the dedicated. We were all new members first and first impressions truly matter to a site. If I was outcasted because I was a new member -- or asked for credit card information -- I would send my business elsewhere.

What's the point of a badge to signify if you're verified? I just have to look at the seller's feedback to see their quality of commitment. If they've sold a lot in the past, they're good to me. However, that still doesn't mean you're totally confirmed that he or she will accept the request. I have like a 70 out / 30 in ratio but sometimes I don't commit to requests that people want because 1) I need money; 2) I'm out of town and wasn't paying attention for a request. A lot of things apply.

First impressions DO matter most though. I don't like looking at blank profiles when someone is "supposed" to send me something. I find myself more comfortable looking at a Goozex member profile that's completely filled out and hasn't sold a game yet, versus a blank one. Those I just have to cross my fingers over. I think for the comfort of other members, you should be required to fill out a profile, even to show that you actually do care for the site. But can that even be enforced? Don't think so.

Lastly, I'm not sure what this topic has to do with being in first place on a new release. Why does that matter where you're in line? Confused there.

I'm a fairly new user so maybe this will happen to me in time, but I've yet to have a bad experiencing requesting or offering games for trade. And I can say for sure that if a Credit Card or bank account was required to get on this site, I would have never signed up. Its way too much hassle. Maybe I'd change my mind if I got burned on a bunch of new games but as of now, I think we just have to have faith in our fellow humans and trust that we're all in this together. Now join hands and sign 'round the campfire with me!

Im a new trader, trading blu-rays mostly. This is the first Ive heard of dummy accounts. I wouldnt sign up if a bank account was required. However, a credit card or paypal verification is no problem.  People dont sign up here to send out a game for $3 shipping, then NOT request other items.  You have to purchase tokens anyways, so why not verify with a CC/Paypal already while signing up? If you dont want to use a CC/Paypal, then perhaps Goozex could accept a $5 money order via mail that would get deposited to your account, then you are verified?

The year is 2009, Credit Cards and online purchases are the norm. If you are too scared to put a CC online, maybe you shouldnt be trading online either. You do realize you are sending like a $50 game to a stranger, right?

Just wait and see what happens. I've traded with several brand new users who turned out just fine. You never know.

Have you ever had your identity stolen?  It can take years to get your life back in order when that happens.  So people on the internet have the right to try to be safe when joining new sites.  I can tell you that I for one would not be a member of this site if I had to get verified.  I am sure there are many many many more people like me that wouldnt be using this site if we had to get verified to join it.

If you needed a bank account, I would not have joined the site.

If they don't get the points, why do these fake accounts?

This. For a non-reputable site (which to many new users, Goozex is), asking for credit card information is akin to giving out your personal info to telemarketers.
