Just wanted to vent/suggest:

I just got matched with new user who is offering Demon's Souls, one of the hardest to find and most popular new releases this year. This user created their account on the very same day I was matched with them, and they have no activity. They will supposedly ship out within three business days, but I smell a dummy account. This is the very reason I hate being 1st in line on new releases during the first 3/4 weeks. All of these dummy accounts screw it up for everyone who is a legit user.

Here's my suggestion. Have all users be certified by Goozex, and given a little badge or something in their profile to show it. How do you get certified? Well, I think 5 postive trades would suffice. Or, for brand new users, how about a registered bank account? Do what paypal does, have the user enter their number and deposit 2 to 8 cents. The user verifies the deposit, and reports it back to goozex. They then become certified. If a user is not certified but still offering a brand new hard to get game, then let the certified user (buyer) cancel the trade without any sort of consequence or delay. That way if we smell something fishy, we can just cut loose and get back to our spot in line.

I'm willing to bet that requiring a bank account would significantly decrease the amount of fake accounts created. How many people have access to more than one checking account? Another option would be to have the user register their checking account, and make a non-refundable $15 deposit into their account, which can be used to buy tokens or points. How many users are willing to get 2 bank accounts and throw away $15 just to get a new release? Goozex would have to make it so that the points/tokens cannot be refunded or tansferred in any way.

Again, this would be an option, but I think it would cut down on this BS.

Thoughts?

Requiring a bank account is asinine; sure there would be less fake account but there would also be less accounts in general, i know tons of users, including myself, never would have signed up if there was credit card/bank info needed.

Have faith, if its a scammer, leave a negative and move on, you'll eventually get the game

If you have such a problem with this, then don't try to get a good spot in line

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

Asinine? Really? You have to buy tokens one way or another. There's nothing saying you'd have to use the bank account to do that, just as a means for verification. I personally wouldn't have a problem with it, if it cut down on the fake accounts. Yes, I'll leave negative feedback and move on, but that's no the point. It was merely a suggestion for improving the already impressive site. I love goozex, I've traded and been active, I just think there are some areas that could use some improvement.

Please don't use the "if you don't like it, don't use it" argument. It's terrible.

I wont, but if goozex required a bank account #, I'd simply discontinue the service, I'm sure 90% of goozex users would do the same.

But yeah the fake/spam/merchant accounts are annoying

Only real way to combat this is to disable trading of new releases for new members.

Yeah, that's not really a great thing for a legitimate new user that wants to trade out a hot new hit, but realistically, how many brand new users with 0 trades are actually here just to trade out a brand new, $60 game right away?

Not even a particularily solid solution. It wouldn't be hard to fake a trade or two to boost yourself up to a point where you can scam the legitimate traders on the new releases.

it has been brought up before and is discounted as the G-Team wants to put as few restrictions as they can on new users, so as not to discourage them and send them away

My guess is probably a lot, but they are usually the type of people who stole the new release and are trying to dump it, like that USPS worker who stole 2,300 gamelfy games

I've actually had some of my best trades come from 0 0 users on new release games.

The ones that make me much more nervous are the ones with a couple positives for low value games, then turn around and trade a new release after they have enough feedback to get immediate points.  Either way, it all works out and you'll eventually get your game.

The Verified Member is an idea we are exploring. There should be different options available, in order to make is secure yet not a barrier to new users. Ideas/discussion welcome.

If this was the case,i would have never gave the site a chance. My 1st trade was Prince of Persia  3 weeks after it came out. If there was a restriction i would have found somewhere else to go.

I would not know where to begin on a way to implement this without it being a barrie to new users. Maybe as a user stated above require a deposit  of 5-15 dollars that can be used to purchase points or tokens. And since you require a deposit maybe give the user 200 300 points to start so they can see the site is not a scam. But don't know what good that would do if you want a deposit up front.

As a new member myself, i do not think a pre-req of trades to send off a new release is a good idea. I joined this site at first to get rid of a new release. I hesitated too long checking out if goozex was for real. I have listed 17 games to send out, and in three weeks time i've only sent out one 100pt game. I hoping to send them all out soon but I have my doubt on most of them being wanted by anyone.

I have requested three games so far, with two expected in the mail tommorow. For me goozex is great, I live in a small town in Quebec and have no place to sell games or buy used games even remotly close to local.

If it's any consolation, the exact same thing happened to me a few days ago.  0/0 user signed up the same day and offered up Demon's Souls and I matched with him.  Turned out to be an excellent trade:  had a DC a few hours later, game was sent ASAP and in perfect condition = +50 tip and TYVM !

On the flip side i've had other new releases offered that were from BS accounts and just had to be patient and leave the negative after giving them about 10 days and a couple PMs.

Putting an end to the BS account nonsense is difficult; removing the 100 point promo was a move in the right direction since that was being abused badly and using Goozex has great value with or without it.  Totally restricting new users from sending out new releases isn't a great solution.  Myself, like others, joined the site with my first trade being a 1000 point game to test the Gooz-laden waters.

Some sort of verification process for new users would definitely help - in the mean time patience (or patients Wink) is your best ally.

Simply a purchase of points or tokens should be verification enough.  It shouldn't be mandated though, as I'd of not stuck around if I had to buy something FIRST.

If any method of verification is made though, will there be room NOT to be verified?  If there's room, would there be benefits to being verified?

FWIW - My first trade was Far Cry 2. I had just finished it (it was fun for the most part) and knew there was  no way in hell I was going to play the whole thing again - plus the multiplayer sucked....... SO it was my first trade  on Goozex. IIRC, it was worth about 1000 pts when I traded.
