Kenny007: I just recently heard that that console oriented title was coming to PC. If what you said is true (and I dont doubt it, DICE has already commented on IW's decision...against it), I may be getting that instead if IW stays the course. I think it's coming out March 2010?

Yeah - it's a much longer wait, but if MW 2 crashes with the PC crowd, it could fill the void if they provide the ability to mod and continue to support dedicated servers...

I've enjoyed all the other BF's I've played on PC. With the 1943 delay, I'd welcome this iteration with open arms...assuming they allow for prone! (I heard there was no prone on the original BC).

IW's comment on the lack of dedicated servers - the anti-cheat feature might just be a plus, but the question is, how long will they support these severs?

Wow...I just read that and thankfully the Kotaku readers feel the same. That was an absolutely terrible response.
Infinity Ward's revelation that Modern Warfare 2 for the PC would drop dedicated servers for online multiplayer in favor of the developer's IWNET tech was met with the usual community grumbling.
The usual community grumbling? The usual community grumbling is when the community finds out a weapon or feature from a previous game has been cut. There was an uproar all across the internet when they found out there wouldn't be dedicated servers.
Steam's anti-cheat isn't bad. But no automated system can catch everything and the live-monitor is that ultimate catch-all that a solid hosted server needs.
Bowling writes that the IWNET matchmaking service is "the biggest investment Infinity Ward has ever made into the PC version of our games,"
If that's true, sorry guys, they're not going to change it.

Oh, I'm sure they won't change it....right away.
Here's hoping people actually stick to their guns with the petition and hold out. Matchmaking AND dedicated servers wouldn't be bad, but strictly matchmaking...screw that.
People were drawing comparisons to Operation Flashpoint 2, another game without dedicated servers, and that it's already dead. I was unaware of that (somewhat interested in the title), but if that's the case, a dead community through the rest of the year might get their [Infinity Ward's] attention.
Then again everyone could just buy it and wait until they personally see the crappy online experience...but by then IW has got their money and it's irrelevant.
Curses.
To the pc gamers above.
I now understand and sypmathize with why you guys are bummed about IW's choices for MW2. Being as I used to be a part of the PC crowd when I was younger, (Ran dedicated servers for Starsiege AND tribes) I can see why there is anger with these choices and the price.
However, the price dosen't really bother me I guess. It was only a matter of time before some PC game prices went up. Yes it does suck for a game that they are taking AWAY features from, but it was bound to happen sooner or later.
The stripped features, does blow, but I guess it comes down to whether you want to play the game or not. Personally I still would, but thats just me. I'm not a hardcore PC gamer anymore, so it dosen't really apply to me.
I will be picking it up on the 360 though. Maybe this is IW's way of saying its time to come over to the dark side?
The problem isn't a lack of wanting to play, but the very large possibility of not being able to. So many variables to consider when personal PCs host games it boggles the mind.
Operation Flashpoint 2 apparently has a similar setup, and from what I've heard, the MP facet is dead....dead in a game that had a huge cult following. A potential sign of things to come.

Well I hope all you PC gamers don't miss out on the MP, COD4's is fantastic, I expect big things from MW2.

*fingers crossed* I hope they just add dedicated servers to what they've done to appease the new and vets. Here's hoping even half of those signing the petition stick to their guns, and that IW gets it's head on straight...
Since my PC is a hunk of crap, I ordered the 360 version.
Because 1) no dedicated servers and 2) completely and totally non-transferable due to forced registration via Steam (which irrevocably ties the game to you and only you, forever, a la Dawn of War 2 (which also isn't tradable here)), I won't be buying it at all on any platform unless/until there's a $15 fire sale price 6-12 months down the road.
Well, mostly because of #2. But #1 was disappointing too.
