With your xbox you either need to spend hundreds of dollars in batterys or roughly 50 dollars for a charging kit.

Wow you are buying really expensive batteries.

As for the debate I like the 360 controller better.  It just seems to feel right.  The PS3 controller is great since it comes with a rechargeable batterie pack but charging it is a pain in the ass as you need to be charging it while your PS3 is on.  Good luck playing while you are charging the controller as well since the cord is pretty small.

Overall the 360 controller eats PS3 controllers for breakfast.

wow... you can get other ps3 controllers.... does any1 realise that? some that take battaries... but really, if you have two controllers then u let 1 charge....

Why would I want to buy a cheap PS3 controller from Hong Kong?  If you dont have two controllers or if you are using both controllers it is hard to recharge one while it is being used.

CrAzY-SmG:

people who perfer the x box 360 controller are either fanboys (probably not) or are just used to it...

for example, say you were palying some game on the computer that you fly with a plane like birds in the sky. if you'r playing with the key pad and having fun for a while, if you decide to get a joystick, it doesn't feel natueral

I have been a PS fanboy since the PS1.  I am used to all of the different PS controllers, yet as soon as I started to use an xbox 360 controller I noticed the difference and liked it better.

Well if you have 4 people in your house that play xbox, and have an xbox since the release date it is easily feasible that you would spend a couple hundred dollars on batteries so telling me I lose credibility for that is a ridiculous

This statement alone is ridiculous.

How so? The xbox360 has been around for almost 4 years, and with 4 controllers (8 batteries). The only "official testing" done on the xbox 360 controllers clocks them in at roughly 57 hours between switching batteries, the downside being that Gamepro (who did the test) used nice/expensive duracell AA's which drives your cost up (theres a reason nasa uses them).  So if 32 AA's cost about $21.25(amazon) you don't see how over the span of four years that could rack up a lot of dough?

Use cheaper batteries and get less playtime out of them, and most of us don't belong to price club/bj's so that isnt really valid for my estimate either. I admit my estimate may be a little high, but it is a far cry from "ridiculous"

Most people use the 360 rechargeable battery pack.

Exactly

If either of you guys read the whole thread i said spend hundreds on batteries OR buy the $50 recharghable battery kit, plus an extra 2 batteries at 20 dollars a piece, bring your grand total to 90 dollars on batteries.

Or, you could do neither and get something like this with these, and you could also use the batteries for other electronic devices! Crazy!

This is the exact setup I use and the batteries give me tons of playtime.  So again, to spend HUNDREDS of dollars on batteries is a ridiculous statement to make, and holds no weight whatsoever.

Yeah, but you stopped talking about those bloated figures to talk about AA batteries. Where are you spending $50 on a recharge kit? $20 on a battery? You can get a battery AND a charge cable for less than $20.

my bloated numbers are the cost of new battery packs for 360 on amazon, yes you can by them used, but no garuntee they are in stock, and im not a fan of buying used accesories anyways. By the way Kevlar your refering to 1 battery, i need 4.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Rechargeable-Controller-Battery-White/dp/B000B6MLSC

and you are right about the bloated price on the actual charger itself, its only 30 dollars. Im sorry i thought my brother had payed 50 for it when he bought it a few years ago

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360quickchargekit/

Grand total for NEW battery set up for 4 controllers - 70 dollars

For the bargain hunter-  I found the official one for 8 dollars used with each battery going for 6- so roughly 32. (im sure you can find better deals on ebay but more hassle than its worth for the purposes of this thread.

Regardless, you all are just choosing to over look whats truly valid in the argument. Regardless of how much you have to spend on batteries or chargers, the fact that you have to spend more money to use your controllers is the only point i was trying to make. Im sorry my illustration was bloated and not entirely accurate, but it hardly makes my argument fallacious. Next you guys will be telling me the xbox wireless adaptor is a great deal.

I will make you a deal, i will sell you a new white plug and play kit, a new white quick charge kit, and 1 new black rechargeable pack for $80.

Or you could just buy them new all from amazon for $55.97 and maybe sells tax.

Oh and they also made this invention about a decade ago called rechargeable AA batteries, here is the proof.

Also i guess you would need to buy 2 extra ps3 controllers for $79 and an extra usb to mini-usb cords for the ps3 for $3.65.

Personally i used to be a sony fanboy and love their controller and hated the 360 one when i first got it but now i am used to it the 360 controller it is better. Except for the d-pad which is still acceptable if you learn to adapt to the diagonal button presses and the build quality of the thumbsticks is also better on the ps3 controller. The design, grip, the fact that i can use my 360 without batteries with the 6ft. cord that also lets me use it on my pc or i can charge my controller while i am not playing or am playing and the ability to use regular or rechargeable AA batteries so i would never have to plug it in make it light years ahead of the ps3 controller..

Wellhead I own an xbox. But I never play it, however I do know that it is a good deal of fun. I can't say much about the PS3 but I have always liked the large size of the dual analogs sticks over the more medium sized xbox ones. Anyone agree?

Xbox 360 controller for the win. I play a lot of Halo, and the controller design is perfect for 1st/3rd person shooters, and it seems all the big games for the system are from either of those two genres (mostly).

Seriously, hundreds of dollars on batteries? Come on now. http://www.amazon.com/Sanyo-Eneloop-Battery-Charger-Batteries/dp/B00198BF9W/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1255900183&sr=8-5

$35 gets you a battery charger and 8AA batteries, plus adapters for C and D sized batteries. I've been using eneloops since I got my 360 and they're spectacular.

Please stop repeating this fallacy. I love my 360, but the Xbox brand is no longer just for first and third person shooters.

The controller is a great design. It has worked since PS1 and it was a good idea to keep it. They had at first planned a new design that resembled a boomerang but because of public dislike they decided on keeping the old style.

I believe that when they make a decision they make it based on what fits the majority of people and not a few who have large hands. It wouldn't make sense at all to create a design that satisfies a minority of players. If you don't like the original controller or it doesn't fit you personally then there are plenty of aftermarket designs you could try. I am sure you will find a controller to your liking but for the majority of players the design they chose seems to be the better decision.

"Light Years Ahead"?? I don't see what you posted that is beneficial at all over the PS3 controller except that you can use it on your PC. Everything else that you used for examples why it is light years ahead, the PS3 also has. The design and grip are personal choices and opinions. If the PS3 controller goes dead you can just switch midgame to a back up controller or you can plug it in and charge it while you play. There is no need to worry about batteries at all with the PS3 controller.

I have to say that by your argument for the 360 controller I think that you have actually made a case why the PS3 controller is the better choice. I certainly do not see where the 360 controller is any bit ahead of the PS3. In fact I think that the things you taught me about the 360 would have me believe that it is closer to 1st generation and way behind in technology than the PS3 design.

Another thing is, I see many complaining about needing to charge the PS3 while playing and I personally have seldom had to do this. I play for hours and hours at a time(sometimes up to 20) and there have been very few times that I ever had to recharge the PS3 controller while playing. The battery in it plays for an extremely long time on 1 charge. One trick is to change settings so that the controller shuts off if idle for 10 minutes.

What fallacy? Look at the top-reviewed games of the system; GTAIV, Halo 3, The Orange Box, Fallout 3, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect...all first/third person shooters. Granted, some walk a fine line, such as GTAIV, and some are hybrid games, such as Mass Effect (3rd person shooter/RPG) and Fallout 3 (first person shooter/RPG). I'm not saying no good games exist on the 360 that aren't 1st/3rd person shooters, but you can't deny the genre is teeming with titles.

What's kind of funny to me is that the play and charge cable does not actually let you use the controller for the PC.

I agree. I didn't look at all the pages, but this is ridiculous.

Why does almost every topic in the forums turn into a fanboy fight? No one cares why you bought your console.
