I like the idea OP.  But you're gonna hear a lot of flack from the west coast people who get to request games at 10 and don't see a problem with the current system.  Being on the east coast, I do see a problem and I think your idea would be fair.

So it's better to just let the site go down for 15 minutes while 150 other people get in line? From my watchlist, I requested Borderlands at 1:01AM. It was green and I clicked ok but the request failed to go through and I couldn't do anything on the site until 1:17AM. I really doubt 150 requested before me so they get in front because of the servers? How does the site go down with just 150 people?

I got #6 in line, just gotta get good at your clickin.

How hard is it to press F5, click the green button and press enter? You give yourself too much credit.

Not giving myself credit, just saying it's the luck of the draw because all you have to do is click, hence why i said get good at clicking. Sometimes you'll get a good spot, sometimes you won't...no need to come whine about it. And I don't even really want the game that much.

I think it largely depends on how people use Goozex. For me, it's not important that I get somethign the second it comes out. In fact, I'm usually farming older games I missed because that's most cost-efficietn pointwise. What I love about Goozex is the post it and forget it aspect. You throw a game up there, and a month or so later you receive an email. It's all good.

But I imagine for some, especailly people younger than myself who use Goozex as the primary means to get new releases, and who may not have to get to work at 8am, staying up the night before a release is a good system.

The reason I prefer a lottery, or at least some system that moves games from the wait list to the requests, is because I don't want to babysit Goozex. I suppose it would take a poll to truly know what most people would prefer.

Problem with a lottery is that people will create half a dozen accounts to get better spots in line, and as we've already established Goozex isn't going to do much to limit people's ability to create fake accounts.

I actually don't see that as a problem. If someone's willing to go through the effort, more power to them. I assume they would prune all the accounts from teh queue list with bad positions in line.

Well Goozex does.  1 account per household.  Creating more than one would violate the ToS.

With regards to the suggestion of making tying this to when a person adds a game to their watch list.  Wouldn't that just slow the site down at a different time if everyone starts adding games to their watch list as soon as they hit the database?

Well hopefully Goozex is looking into something to improve the system since a lot of users aren't happy with it currently.

It's gotta be daunting to a new user of Goozex to log on the day of release and find out that despite they logged on first thing in the morning, they landed 100+ for a game. Then they hit the forums and find out that the time to request a new game is 10pm at best, 1am at worst. Then they actually try to request a game when its released and they still don't understand why they tried for 15 minutes to get a page to load, and when it finally did, they weren't much closer than when they requested in the morning.

Granted, this is the only real price we pay for Goozex. We pay more in time waited and patience than actual dollar amounts. The games and points pretty much take care of themselves, as long as you buy 1 or 2 new games yourself every few months, it will help supply lost points of older traded games. Trade credits are your real only worry. However, as Goozex grows and more users are waiting for those top spots, the load times will worsen, more users will get angry, and others will get tired of trying.

Catastrophic

As long as the movement to active is random, I see no problem at all with this idea. It would GREATLY reduce traffic on launch days, as long as everyone in this catagory gets added before anyone else. Otherwise, it solves nothing.

Yes, but was just stated, Goozex doesn't do much about people creating multiple accounts (meaning they don't care that much). I simply meant that as a user it wouldn't bother me if other users did that, provided it didn't get totally out of hand. Of course it would be preferable if Goozex better policed multiple accounts. That's up to Goozex.

Anyway, my basic point is still that I prefer the "add it and forget it" model, which necessitates some sort of system for automatically moving games from the wait list to the requests. And, I don't really see how anyone but the most hardcore benefit from hovering over their computer in the hours preceeding a game's release so that they can (hopefully) be toward the top of the queue.

I have an idea that I'm just throwing out there, I haven't really thought about it that much.

For every succesful trade, you get one "preorder" token.  You can mark any game in your watch list as a "preorder", as long as you do it before the game comes out.  Everyone who preorders gets automatically put before everyone who didn't, and from there, they are just randomly assigned a spot.   If you really want to ensure a good spot in line, you can use multiple tokens.

I'm sure there's plenty wrong with this idea, but it will help against people creating dummy accounts just to spam the lottery system, should they ever go that route.

I beg to differ about Goozex not doing much about people that create multiple accounts.  They just dont announce when they have caught people.  I have personally reported a few users that had multiple accounts and I know for a fact those users were banned from the site.  One user created multiple accounts to try to win the refer a friend promotion that Goozex had going on.  They ended up winning the contest but have since been banned which means Goozex takes this very seriously.  The user in that instance seemed reputable and didnt even make any trades on his multiple accounts but that did not matter.  If you get caught creating multiple accounts on here you will be banned and you will lose all your valuable points and trade tokens.

Also how would you know how good at policing multiple accounts Goozex is?

If ppl want to quit complaining about new release games and ppl not getting a good spot due to a lot of stress on the server, I would think the G-team would add one more server to speed up the load more, we can start a fundraiser to help them pay for it :)

Being a east coaster I was never a fan of the add the release game after 1 a.m.   I would prefer a lottery system.  I wouldn't  be against a system that gave everyone a chance at a #1 slot.  I never ever had that spot, and don't think I ever will with the current set up.

Yes, this will not help much.

I never minded the10:00pm site visits. Sometimes I can get good spots (in top 30), or sometimes I completely forget and get 100+. (Like Borderlends where I'm almost 200). So I feel like I'm rewarded for remembering to visit Goozex on time.

Anyways a better idea would be enabling the games 10:00pm EASTERN TIME. That would decrease the amount of complaints.

The problem IS NOT being #180 in line.

The problem IS 300 requests vs 10 offers.
