I wonder how many people would be willing to trade 4 600pt games to a person for Uncharted 2 instead of using the Exchange.

To this argument, I traded those fou 600 point games on goozex.  There is nothing I want to spend my points on that I have to play RIGHT NOW so I have been sitting on 5800 points for a few months now.  What good are these points if I don't spend them.  I will still have plenty of points left over and with all the holiday trades I plan on making, I will get plenty more points.

I could also look at it this way.  four 600 pt games are sitting on my shelf.  I really don't ever intend on playing them again.  I could trade them to a friend for a brand new game that I will more than likely play for a while and thoroughly enjoy.  But heck no!!! I would rather hold onto the four games I don't intend on ever playing again then get a new game that I would play... you know... for the principle.... /sarcasm.

I haven't read the big giant thread, but I'm still puzzled how this makes any economic sense for the company. Let's say they have to spend $60 for the game to send to me. If I trade it away (which I might not even do) they make $1 back and then require another 59 trades of that one game to break even.

Of course, there may be some other factors, such as getting a cheaper price for the games or they have some sort of profit sharing deal with Amazon.

I know some people have said that it gets unused points out of the system and causes people to have to either buy or trade to build their points back up. That's true, but I don't know how you would properly project the effect that it will have on the overall business given that one person takes advantage of the Exchange offer. What do I know, maybe the Goozex crew are some kind of math/econ geniuses.

I'm sure they would not do it if it did not benefit them financially in some way.  If it ends up to not help them financially, I am sure the exchange will go away.  I am not going to question the G-teams business desicion as they will do what is best for the site.  Now you just have to sit back and choose whether you want to enjoy the exchange or not.  Both opinions (for and against) are valid.

That didnt have anything to do with what I said.  Would you trade those 4 600pt games directly to a person for Uncharted 2 or any of the 2400 pt Exchange games.

Edit:  Added the quote and clarification.

what you said opens up a dangerous door to being able to offer more points than set for a given game; this is a slippery slope that quickly would lead to bartering and destroy what makes goozex great

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

I bolded the part that answers your question.  That says yes I would.  What is the point of holding onto 4 games I will not play again if I could get rid of them and get a game I would play.

I'll even Amen that!  I would not ask nor would I want a bartering system on Goozex.  I'm just asking in general if people would feel that they got a good deal if they gave me 4 600pt games and I gave them Uncharted 2?  I just think that it seems more acceptable because its being done through a middleman than if it was done one on one.  I just personally think its an unfair trade all around.

No, the part I bolded and underlined says yes you would.  I didnt ask for all that side talk or sarcasm.  Thanks for finally answering the question with a straight answer.  I understand not holding on to games you will not play again, I guess I would just try to get more for them.  If you feel you got a good deal, I'm not here to belittle it.  I'm trying to feel better about the exchange prices.

Think what you want, but it is a COMPLETELY OPTIONAL feature of the site, if you think it is unfair don't use it; other users may not share your viewpoint.  And if you were to trade those 4 600 pt games in store, theres still a chance you might not net enough to cover the game

You're very welcome! (I am rather snarky today.. sorry)Embarrassed

I don't think you have to spend that much time trying to feel better about the prices though.  Your opinion that the prices are to high is 100% valid.  Would I have rather have used less points?  Of course I would.  But I think we can both sleep easy at night saying we either did or did not use the service.

I'll end with a saying I heard out in Kansas somewhere.

Carry on our wayward sons...  There will be peace when we are done... now let us all lay our weary heads to rest.. and let us cry no more...

Or something like that... (this has nothing to do with anything we are discussing, just on my ipod at the moment)

Everyone is forgetting the point that UC2 is worth 2400 points as well.

Consider the additional 1400 mark up assurance of three things you DON'T get with the standard Goozex service:

1) Guaranteed a new title

2) EXTREMELY fast shipping (I just got mine from Amazon and the USPS didn't even have time to track the DC)

3) Months of your time back as you wont be stuck waiting for an eternity for the latest hit game.

Not a bad deal I'd say, doubly so for a game like UC2.
