Okay, I'd like if someone who has more experience or maybe someone who knows for sure about the reliability of using programs like Cdcheck or Alcohol 120% to write images of PS2 games to your PC to quick check for errors?

The situation is that I got a game from a user that had been clearly ran through a Disc Doctor... which if you don't know makes games look like they've been rubbed with sandpaper pretty much.  So I assumed this means at some point some one had a problem with the game not working, or why would they Disc Doctor it, so I did the old trick of checking it with my PC with both CDcheck and Alcohol.. they both gave one of two read errors.  In the past I've never seen a game that gives a error on those programs that works all the way through the game, I have seen games that don't give any errors that actually end up not working at some point though.

If I just pop the game in the PS2 it works of course, but the error is just in one spot which would almost for sure be later on in the game, so what would be best in this situation for feedback?  I'm almost positive it'll error at some point, but can I really prove that... not really sure.

And also, how does Goozex check the games?  Because if they are going to just put them in the system and see if they start up then I might as well not worry about it, but if they also scan them for read errors it would most likely show up.  And one last question that I've always wondered.. if you have a dispute and you have to send the game in to Goozex are you out the shipping or do they credit it back to you somehow?  Because for a 150 point game it might just be better to eat it.

Thanks to anyone in advance who has any sort of light to shed on my various questions!

You should leave "unplayable disc" feedback.  If the seller disputes then be prepared to send the game to Goozex for inspection.  We reimburse on the shipping costs with tokens.  If the seller doesn't dispute you'll get a refund after three days.

For shipping they credit you back 3 or so trade tokens to make up for your shipping costs.

I know on CD check I have got a ton of disc read errors on older ps1 games but have never used it on PS2 games.  On all the PS1 games the games worked fine even though they got the errors.  I am not sure how Goozex tests the games but if I were you I would play the crap out of the game to see if you can get to the part where there is an error.

Yeah, sadly there are only 2 days left now killmak!  I even know the file name that doesn't read... I really wished I had the time to play the crap out of it!  Thanks much for the reply and info, it's good to know how they handle the shipping!

I have noticed problems with cdcheck on PS1 games before as well, I think it has to do with the subdata or something in their format, but I've never had any problems with PS2 games, besides it just missing errors where the game wouldn't play through.

Could any of the Goozex staff chime in on this one if you have a few moments to spare?  I figure this will be something that I'll be runing into every once and a while and it would be nice to hear an official word on how it should be handled.

If you are in need of a quick response you can always try to PM blackcoyote.  He gets back to PM's decently fast.

I don't know if they will reveal how they test the games to make sure if they work but I will tell you what they told me when I contacted them about a similar thing.  I had a 360 game that wouldnt install to my one xbox hard drive.  I left negative and the other user disputed it.  So Goozex asked me to send it in to them for testing.  Before sending it out I tested installing it on my other xbox and bam it worked.  So I e-mailed them asking if I should even bother sending it out and they responded that "it is up to the user whether they think it is unplayable or not.  If you really think it is unplayable you should send it in, if you think it does work then we will change the feedback".

You will probably get a similar response.  Support is really good though so even if they cant find a problem with the disc they will probably still refund you your points.

Thanks killmak, yeah, I'm just one of those people who really hates to take points away from someone, just about as much as I hate to lose them for no fault of my own either.  The seller did contact me and say that they have never played the game which doesn't help me feel more confident about it not working, but at the same time they came off to me as a young kid who probably isn't trying to dump off crap that they know doesn't work on me or others as well.  So it sort of sucks to make them lose their points and $2-3 shipping as well.. but it just feels like more and more it's probably not going to work all the way through the game to me.

I guess I'll shoot him a PM and see what he thinks if he'll have time to answer it, other wise I'm leaning on a negitive.

I really guess more than anything I was hoping some people on here might have had enough experience with testing PS2 games that they could help me feel more sure about if a certain program says there is a read error then it means it's a no go for sure.. I just hate to cheat anybody.. which would include myself! Wink

Yeah... you know you don't post on the forums much when you can't figure out how to PM.  If you could give me a hint it would me much appreciated!

You simply go to the trading profile of who you want to message, and click on the green button that says "Send a message".

Here's Blackcoyote's profile:

Thanks Jurassic.. I should have figured that out but I wasn't sure if there was an other way to PM from the forums or something.

why would you leave me negative feedback if you didnt have any trouble playing the game? thats a bunch of BS in my opinion. if you played the game and the game didnt play or stopped playing then ok, the game was messed up. but your going on the pretense that because your computer program told you it was messed up that it was yet you havent had any problems with it. why dont you just send the game back to me since you left false negative feedback and i have no points for the game.  thanks
