who the hell is Farve? Pizza

Brett Favre.

lol i know who he is, was just pointing out the common misspelling of his name in the title; on these forums an emoticon such as... Pizza implicates joking

Once I had recognized my mistake as the game began, I kept listening to the announcers REAL closely, wondering if one of them would actually say his name as he has it spelt: Fav-ra.  Apparently it's said Farve, but the parents we're dyslexic or something.

I was thoroughly disgusted by the game. With 7 sacks, the Vikings definitely deserved to win. However, the phantom pass interference call on Woodson's interception was BS. Since the Vikings scored immediately after the ruling, things might have been different with some decent officiating.

Also, last night only strengthened my opinion that Al Harris is the most overrated cornerback in the NFL. Way to half-ass it, Al.

They make fun of that in 'There's Something About Marry'.

Agreed.  Personally, the pass interference is the one penalty I never understood, so I took it for face value at first, even though i thought it looked fine.  Even the announcers were like "Give credit where it's due", but nothing.  The game might have been different without that crap alone.

EDIT: Speaking of pass interference, wouldn't an interception constitute an interference of one's pass?  You totally got in the receivers way and took the ball from him!

I guess you had plenty of opportunities to hear them mis-pronounce it, then. It felt like I was watching The Brett Favre Show with some clips of football thrown in now and then.

Anyway, "In French, it would be "FAH-vruh" or "Fah-VRAY," depending on whether the ending "e" has an accent aigu. But Brett Favre has explained that his family has long pronounced it "FARV." He said the pronunciation is a result of his family heritage, which blends Cajun with Choctaw Indian."

Worst call of the night, but I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game. Debatable, I guess, since they won by one touch down. But Packers gave up other opportunities, too, so what're you gonna do.

How about the Roughing the Passer on Brady? That was a horrible call, and that one DID change the outcome of the game. The drive should have ended, but instead it led to a touchdown. But I agree, when I saw the replay in the Viks/Packs game I was thinking where was the interference?

I heard next year the NFL will require all QB's to wear pink tootoos.  I think Brady put one on a year early and for once I agree with Rodney Harrison.

Totally. The Favre-worship was getting deep. When the announcers said they were going to be talking to Favre immediately following the game, I turned to my friend and said, "Will Brett be taking the form of a burning bush?"

Pizza. Joking. Got it.

I kind of figured that all of the damn publicity he's been getting in the last 2-3 years (let alone the last 2-3 weeks) was reason enough for me to believe that everyone and their mother, and their grandmother, ought to know who he was.

Were you expecting something different?  =P

I knew Brett would be stealing the spotlight from the moment he joined up with the Vikings.  If it were anyone else, I would have said he did it all for the publicity.  But he plays the game well, and it doesn't look like he's going to punk out anytime soon.

I saw this Favre and Packers topic on the front page and I couldn't resist, probably swept up in the drama like almost everyone else, and being a Viking fan living in Wisconsin its hard to avoid!  Haha.

Putting Favre, and my MN bias aside, and watching the game as a huge football fan as I am, the Vikes are the better team after watching last night.  I've been pro Favre joining the Vikings ever since I heard the rumors.  He changes the dynamic of that team, especially after seeing that performance after Peterson was getting shut down.  I highly doubt Jackson or Rosenfels would have made some of those throws.  Also, the Pack had too many penalties and I think Rodgers holds the ball way too long.  I really wonder sometimes what Ted Thompson was thinking pushing that decision on Favre a couple years ago.  I think I saw an earlier comment about Favre pissin on his legacy and being a laughing stock and such...really?  Gimme a break, lol.

I also need to add that the "phantom" pass interference call didn't matter, since there also was an offsides call on the Packers that same play :)  The Vikes declined that and took the interference call instead, not that it mattered.

I'm really pumped as a Vikings fan this year more than any, being that we have a knowledgeable and veteran QB.  I dont care if it was Favre or not.  And the Packers are not a terrible team, that offense is still dangerous, I think the game came down to a few plays here and there.  Most likely will be a different story when they meet up in Lambeau.

Is Favre expected to stay with the Vikings after this year though, or is this his last season?

Depends on the monetary value and press-whoring he can grab from this year's Lindsay Lohan-esque drama ... Big Smile

2 year contract, last I checked.  But with all that flirting he's been doing with the idea of retirement recently... I wouldn't count on it.
