Although your front-cover-missing DS strat guide would fit nicely between by beat-to-hell FFVII
I ended up selling my beat to hell FFVII guide a few months ago on Amazon. With half the front cover missing, and a 2/3 inch chunk of the corner of every single page gone, I still got about $50 for the thing. Especially nice since I have a mint one I found at a goodwill still, and the one I sold was the one that came free with the game on release day from Kay Bee Toys.
I'm just saying, as much as I like Final Fantasy, if you're not using the guide, Final Fantasy fans are crazy about throwing their money away.

How well do you do finding games at goodwill? I might start looking!
Gary Johnson For President 2012!
Not often do I find something good, but every now and then I find a treasure, like a full package mint in sealed box Warsong for SEGA Genesis for $1.
Just had my first experiences with being totally raped in PvP. Had about 5 more minutes to go before clearing 1-3 to the point where I could almost open the large gate and give myself a shortcut. Idoit me didn't bother to bring many precautions for PvP even though I had by physical body.
Black Phantom pops in and races to me as i'm quickly trying to set up my character with a couple of rings and generally fumbling through inventory (i'll admit I was kind of nervous knowing I was ill-equipped). Finially get set up and start doubling back to head him off...and wound up walking right into a Firestorm.
Fail...
Has anyone actually gotten Soulsucker to work successfully against another player? I'm reading that it takes a full level away from the other player but doesn't kill them. Not sure if it's even worth it to try and use in a PvP situation considering it's short range and time it takes to cast. Maybe with a character with a knockdown weapon?

Never used Soulsucker but boy did I use firestorm :)
If you had the timing down, it might work with a knock down weapon, assuming it hit them right as they got up and hadn't moved or rolled yet. Spells generally go right over the person or miss when they're knocked down, though, unless it's AoE spell.

...and I made the error of taking all the spells from Sage Freke on my first game, just to make it easier to remember what I needed for my second game. HUGE mistake there....
Firestorm >>>>> Fireball

Gah, don't think i'll be trying it PvP. Been using Soulsucker to farm a few quick levels from the Blue-Eyes just behind the 1-3 archstone. With Ring of Avarice, it produces close to 10K soul for about 45 seconds of work. It's been very helpful in trying to get INT bumped to 40 for my 6th spell slot.
Now it's time to take down Penetrator...
I played at my friends house and i loved it.
Kenny's Monday Demon's Souls update.
Played for a good while over the weekend, and finally started to make some ground in this game! Killed the Tower Guard, the Armor Spider, and that big thing in the courtyard of 4-1. Tried to beat the boss of 4-1 but got whipped to death through the ground below me, so I'm not even sure how to attack that one.
Leveled up a little bit, and found that large katana in 4-1 which was a boon on Friday evening. However, Saturday got me feeling gutsy again and I charged another red eye. Died, albeit slower. Undetered, I shot one in the head from as long a distance I could muster and ran like a girl. Wrapped around to where he was and stole his treasure, a Crescent Falcion +1. Did the same to another which had the arb. shield. I lol'd as I ran, screaming.
Also had my first taste of PvP. I was doing so well with the game Saturday, I totally forgot I hadn't died, and was in human form. Suddenly I get that 'You've been invaded!" message and start hyperventilating. I stop, say this is ridiculous, and tell myself "I've got this bitch" and throw on my graverobber ring (another weekend find) and run up a floor with my back to the wall, overlooking an early chokepoint in 2-1. I wasn't sure what I was looking for, but I knew him when I saw him. As soon as he'd almost passed, I lept down. Apparently he'd seen me and pulled a bow...his mistake at this point. Led in with a few swings, which apparently spun him around, then backstabbed him for the kill. It was probably one of the most gratifying moments I've had yet as I carried on to beat the level.
While I still don't feel SUPER confident in the game, my skill is slowly growing. At 10-12 hrs, I do feel a little 'behind', but I am enjoying some of my more recent successes.
...and if the open offer for that torn up guide is still out there, I am SURELY interested. I'd of bought the deluxe edition myself had I known of the title sooner.

If it makes you feel any better, I've still only beaten the first boss. Between moving, Dragon Age, and my apparently uncurable addiction to MLB 09: The Show, I just haven't gotten any playtime with DS. And tomorrow MW2 comes out.
I hope this thread doesn't die when the herd moves to MW2...it'll be a shame.
I am a bit curious about weapons. I just got my first one to +3, which apparently opens up a bunch more options. I've the choice to continue on as normal...+4, +5....etc, or start with other things like Fatal, Mecury, etc. While the utility of some of those makes sense (magic damage, poison, etc), one that confused me was 'Quality'. Seems more expensive than just going to +4, yet it DECREASES my weapons attack value. Nothing else numbers wise seems to move. Why would I bother?
A funny side note. I knew that the special blacksmith was in 2-1 somewhere, but having beaten the level, hadn't seen him. Just as I was going to give up, I fell down the elevator shaft, to my physical forms death. There he was...lol.
MW2 isn't even out yet and this post is already fading!!!!
*cries!*

That's what you get for being late to the party....
Personally, DS will be contending for time with MW2. I expect i'll probably take a break for a week and then DS will start to creep it's way back into my life. I still want to finish my new game+ and finish acquiring all the spells.
Kenny, regarding your earlier post about weapon upgrades, I'm not sure if you've utilized the wiki, but it's perfect for planning out you weapon upgrade paths (among many other things):
http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/upgrade
Outside of giving the weapon different properties, several of the weapon upgrades change or balance which stats your weapon damage is based on. Quality balances out how much it considers your STR and DEX stats and becomes better once fully upgraded to +5. Always a good idea to base your weapon upgrades on how you plan to build your character.
BTW, grats on "getting over the hump" with the early part of the game.

Man you should trade it disc only immediately. Then you can get it back later cheaper! It's the financially responsible decision!
STR and DEX are another concern for me. I don't know which to raise.
In most RPGs, certain facets of weapons like one or the other, and while that seems to be vaguely the case here, it doesn't seem to guide my decisions. The only thing I've been factoring when choosing whether to raise STR or DEX is which one offers the most gains for the level. IE: If a point in STR seems to keep everything level (minus Physical Defense or whatever, which always seems to rise), while DEX adds +1 to my Attack rating, I'll go with Dex. Vice versa if that applies.
Since I can currently carry all the weapons I intend to use with no noticeable penalty, I've yet to focus on one or the other.
