My wife uses EA Active along with regular treadmill running and she is seeing some results.

Duddy07:

My uncle told me that a guy he works with lost about 30LB over a course 6 months by playing DDR. There is hope I guess :D

DDR is excellent cardio, especially if you're playing on Expert Levels; I don't doubt this at all

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

who thinks the Wii can be a serious way to get into shape with the combination of some cardio on the side (of course)?

This did not work for me. That said, my family got that Wii primarily to play games. When the Wii Fit came out, I just saw it as a bonus. We got Wii Fit last year, we used it for about 4 months and got tired of it. We now only use it to weigh ourselves now and again. Personally, I rarely break a sweat unless I go through every exercise and minigame.

I think getting fit is a lifestyle choice and a bunch of things has to change: diet, exercise program, sleeping habits, etc. Also to successfully lose weight you need to use these games daily and motivation to play these games is a big factor. I found that Wii Fit did not keep me motivated -- there was no exercise program to follow, moving through the menus was slow and tedious, and the exercises are really geared towards posture and muscle toning rather than cardio.

I guess it depends on the title.  I am curious to see if other fitness titles such as EA sports active or Gold's Gym or the upcoming Wii Fit Plus is better.

When the Wii first came out. There was the Wii Experiment to see if the damn thing could actually make you lose some weight if you were eating decently (aka not eating junkfood every single day). So originally, it was to do 30-45 minutes a day, everyday, for a month. Well, it made my lose 14 pds. Mainly the boxing and the Tennis.

Since then. I've tried Wii Fit, which is a nice add-on but it hard at first to be motivated because it takes so damn long to get a new exercise started. However, once you unlock them all then it's pretty easy. The only draw back is that you can pre-set your training. Only close thing is your favorites.

I don't have many games for the Wii. We had originally bought it for the Virtual Console. Anything released for the actual console that we like is always bonus.

Like I said in my earlier post, if i buy it im only getting workout related titles.  I have concluded that you get out of something as much as you put into it.  So if you try hard i think you see results in anything and it should also apply to Wii exercise as well.

I can hardly recommend the Wii as a gaming console, let alone an exercise machine.  Wink

All the wii hate is pretty old by now. yes it's not HD,  but it still has some great games (and plenty of shitty ones too).

Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes have been three of my top games this generation.  There's nothing that can compete with Mario Kart in that style on either of the other two platforms (correct me if there is anything out there now), and I've only heard good things about Resident Evil 4 (which I'm trying along with the Conduit next).

Wii fit / wii boxing are not nearly a workout that DDR can be, but if you want to get in shape, go run a few days a week and buy a wii for gaming.

Wipeout HD on PS3 i see as being a superior racer with power ups in the style of MK

I haven't checked that out, but the memories of late night MK in college give the series more personal connection to me.  If Sony (or whoever owns it) ever updated Crash Team Racing for the ps1, I'd probably also be all over that for the same reason.

CTR was the bomb, but I believe it is  a NIntendo related product, I had it for the Gamecube once upon a time,  so therefore not a chance it could compete with Mario Kart, probably.  it would be for the Wii, which would be awesome, but again too similar, maybe after Natal come sout for the other system?

Wii and strength training don't go together.  I guess if you're IWX you could use the Wiimote as a barbell...

I've heard good things about the Gold's Gym for cardio.

Ouch,  now that was funny.....
