I will not mail to canada for a very simple reason: no tracking. Nothing you can say will remove that basic problem.

actually it has been precedented in dispute cases that your Customs form holds up as proof of shipment

This is correct.  The G-Team has stated this in multiple cases.  It might even be in the FAQ, but no human could possibly find it Pizza

I liked the idea of #1 as far as being presented with the option of allowing international trading if I can't gat a game here in the US, however #2 & #3 just comes across as a rant of impatience and wouldn't work for all the reasons already described.

Also there IS a suggestion forum here on Goozex that this thread may have been better suited for.........just a thought Gift

Yeah, the custom form ID number is something that was a deal breaker for me.  As long as that holds water, I'm ok shipping to canada.  Plus it is cheaper.  It ranges 2.10 to 2.70 for me to ship to canada, give or take the weight of the game.  Inside the US is over 3 every time.  So I don't know where that 1 or 2 dollars more to ship up north came from.

And thanks to the canuckians, I do get games I was in Long Wait status for, like MGS The Twin Snakes is coming my way right now ;)

I think the first suggestion is good, but price id not the only reason some do not ship to canada.

I have Canada active right now but am seriously considering taking it off. I recently had a dvd not show up to a buyer (I shipped the DVD in the allotted time) in Canada and since I couldn't use DC I had no proof and had to cancel the trade and take the loss. It also happened once before that a person didn't get the game I sent them before the trade closed, fortunately in that case however it showed up a couple of days later and goozex took care of it.

Did you keep the receipt? If you did the customs form number proves you sent it.

Read the few posts before yours about DC and about customs.

That said, a loss packaged can happen anywhere, nationally or internationally. In 12 years that I have been doing online transactions, only once did a pkg never arrive to destination. The irony was that it was in the U.S........

I agree with most that suggestion 1 is good and 2 and 3 are not.

I have another question that it looks like some on this thread could answer.  the paypal options for postage, does that save the shipper money also?

Forgive me for going off topic, but this is something I've wondered about for awhile.  See, I live out in the middle of nowhere and my local post office doesn't do receipts or international tracking.  I was also under the impression that the custom form you fill out stays with the post office, so how would I prove shipment?  Would I be able to retrieve the form on request, or would I need to take a picture of it or something?

I think that's the reason mafafu doesn't ship to Canada, but I could be mistaken.

In Canada our customs forms have a carbon copy which gets stapled to the receipt.  I guess a picture would work.  Anything to prove that you have the customs form number.

Wait, it's cheaper to ship to canada?  I don' t get it, I've read many horror stories about customs forms and hold ups etc...

#1 is a good idea, #2 and #3 not so much for reasons other people have stated.

I personally have never seen shipping costs to Canada be cheaper and I live in the northeast so Canada's not too far away.  Over the past 5 years (I've worked in shipping for over 10 years now) Customs and Duties for shipping to Canada from the U.S. has just gotten totally out of control.  The best thing to do is just lie on the forms about what your shipping and tell them it's documents because the fees for documents are nothing.  Unless you're shipping a PC game box or a Box Set of something where it's pretty obvious that it's not just paperwork they'll never bother checking.

Now a lot of the pricing does depend on where you live as well but seeing as how I could DRIVE to Canada from here I would think it would be cheaper to mail things than it has been lately.

As for hold ups......well.....it's usually on the shippers end.  If the fees aren't paid in full or the package is damaged in shipping it will be held at the customs office and usually the receiver will have to go pick it up.  Also if you ship something in a package that has been reused like 100 times and it looks all weird and crappy it may get held up in customs as well.  Basically anything that looks "odd" is gonna get checked.

If you ship things with the USPS in NEW packaging (preferably padded envelopes as boxes tend to be checked more often) then Canada shipping is USUALLY pretty painless.  Just don't use UPS or FedEx as their rates are outFREAKINGrageous and the minimal "ground" feature doesn't include all duties so the receiver will end up paying for it. (unless you specifically state that you're gonna pay for them)

Sorry for the long read Time

I send games in bubble mailers to canada, putting on the customs form as Other, and writing in, "used video game" with a value of 20 bucks or less, depending on the points.   Never cost me more than 2.50 to mail it.

Is that with DC?  If so that's a great deal.  Also where do you live?  You obviously don't have to be specific or anything I was just curious if the rates to canada are drastically different depending on location in the US as I'm only familiar with the rates of shipping from Northeastern states.
