Has the Hong Kong action film "The Killer" been reviewed?
have not seen it, so no.
How is this, anyway?
I have it on my shelf waiting to watch it, but I keep putting it off. I did love Hard Boiled, so I'm sure I'll like it.
If you love Hard-Broiled, I recommend watching The Killer. I also recommend City on Fire.
From what little I've watched of Ranma 1/2, I enjoyed it. However, I tend to stay away from long series because they take so long to watch. I may go back sometime.
I currently just finished Fushigi Yugi and watched The Dog of Flanders which I bought used from Blockbuster. For the most part, I thoroughly enjoyed Fushigi Yugi and hopefully I can get my hands on the OVAs just to complete the experience (even though I hear they are not as good). It really makes me interested in the manga now, especially the new Genbu saga.
The Dog of Flanders is a beautiful, heartfelt, and sad movie. I'm slightly dissappointed that the dvd was only released as a cut version with only the English language track; however, the English dub was actually very well done. Despite that this version has been edited, it didn't seem to detract from the experience. I've read that there was actually a series that this movie was based on but I can't seem to find much about it except for the opening on Youtube. I'm assuming it has not been released on dvd, and perhaps has not been translated for the English speaking audiences. Does anyone know about it?
I was wondering if you guys could review "Area 88." I've been interested in picking up the movie/series for a while but haven't found any reviews that were worth giving deference to.

I saw this years ago. While I don't remember it all, and have no desire to watch again, I do remember it boring me. I never could get into it. It was dull, characters uninteresting and I have never really been able to get into any of the animes centered around planes much.
Yikes, I might avoid it then. That being said for me Macross = Anime. Thats what i watched when i was but a wee youngin' when robotech was on sci-fi. I don't really care much for anime outside of that and a few other mainstream ones like Akira. I was really only interested in Area 88 because of the game ("U.N. squadron" in America) which was one of my favorite childhood games.
EDIT: I am aware there is an expansive world of anime beyond robotech but thats what i like, so
I just finished watching Lucky Star finally - stupid Netflix. It was excellent - especially the Lucky Channel and credits which impressed me the most. I realized about halfway through that I had seen about half of it already but it was definitely worth watching for the parts I didnt get to see.
I especially liked all the inside jokes and the Haruhi episode
In terms of John Woo - you should definitely get around to watching the Killer, and you might want to check out his two earlier films A Better Tommorow I and A Better Tomorrow II, they're not as polished as his most famous action pieces but they're both still adrenaline pieces.
Also in the same vein, there's a little movie called Time and Tide that's also got some insane and amazingly choreographed action sequences. Not by John Woo but it's very John Woo-esque, it's more modern and is also a very fun ride throughout. I'd definitely suggest this movie to anybody who's liked John Woo's films. People should give it a chance.

Speaking of Lucky Star, I miss watching that. I wish the second wave of characters that was introduced in the second half of the show was around for much longer, since they were all pretty funny and I wanted to see more of them.
Kannagi - Crazy Shrine Maidens
Kannagi is a series about a high schooler named Jin who happens to ressurect a goddess, Nagi, out of a wooden statue. She begins to live with him, masquerading as his older sister. She acts more like a spoiled brat through most of the series, but also tends ot be very caring at times. She uses Jin's help to irradicate impurities throughout the area. Unfortunately for Jin, more trouble and hijinks ensue thanks to his childhood friend Tsugumi, Nagi's sister Zange-chan, and his friends from the art club. Fans of Haruhi, Lucky Star or K-On! will find a lot to love with this series. It is very similar in design and comedy. The cast of Lucky Star even makes a quick cameo in episode 10. The series is only 14 episodes long, and won't disappoint anyone who enjoys comedy and wacky anime. With lovable characters and constant laughs, I have to highly recommend looking into this series. Rating: 9.5 out of 10 Crazy Shrine Maidens Request on Goozex in the following formats: Unfortunately there are no listings for this series on Goozex, but it is sold by various anime retailer websites.

Zenverse: Yay for Kannagi! I think the only dvds out now are the Japanese language English subtitled version. They had them at the NY Anime Fest this year but I think they were around $25-$30 a disc so I held back. The Anime New Network's panel was actually giving the disc 1 and 2 out free during their panel when you asked a question, but the two guys sitting right in front of me, got both of them! And they didn't even know what the show was!!!!! Aaaarrggggh! I seriously felt like buying it off them right there but I didn't get a chance to look around the vendor area for prices. I guess I should have... ='( However, I went to the Bandai panel and won a wonderful Kannagi shirt by dancing to the intro dance! :D

I bought the first volume for $35 at Otakon because it was out before the retailers had it. And I bought the 2nd for $26 and it came with a free Kannagi shirt from Rightstuf.com. :D

Although I really liked the show, I'm too cheap to spend $25-30 on the dvds. Maybe I'll wait until rightstuf has a sale on Bandai dvds or something since they're about $26 there right now.
but if you wait to purchase, that means he has to wait longer to pillage your collection
