Oh and have you seen Nagasarete Airanto? I've seen some of it and it looks really good!
Edit: I take it back...I'm starting to hate Fushigi Yuugi's English dub now. And Koji's english voice actor is horrible. He sounds like Gilbert Gottfried... :(
just ordered CJ7 Blu-Ray on Amazon. one it gets in I will watch and review. Look for a couple other reviews to hit this weekend.
I won't review Ponyo until Goozex has a listing for it.
Larpi says to watch Higurashi so you can finish my movie.
I refer to myself in the 3rd person when I make demands
ended up watching Old Boy and Tokyo Zombie, and i liked Tokyo Zombie better because the ending seemed too messed up for Old Boy.
Volcano High
Back when i used to purchase Asian films without research and more just based on how the box looked, I picked up a little title called Volcano High. Volcano High is a Korean action/comedy/sci-fi title starring Jang Hyuk as the main character Kim Kyung-Soo. He ends up at Volcano High after his psychic powers have managed to get him kicked out of multiple schools. Once in Volcano High, he immediately falls for Yoo Chae-Yi, the captain of the Kendo team. Once his powers are revealed, various clubs star trying to recruit him in order to get ahold of an ancient Manuscript that the principle holds dearly. His biggest rival becomes Jang Ryang who is the school's post powerful fighter and biggest bully. Once the school falls into utter disarray, the Vice Principal calls in a team of 5 Teachers to bring the unruly students to justice. This leads to an epic showdown between Kyun-soo and head teacher, Mr. Ma (Huh Jun-Ho).
This quickly became one of my favorite Korean films ever, with some of the best comedy and action mixed together. Jang Hyuk plays his role perfectly (like always), and manages to come off as innocent and goofy, until he gets particularly angry towards the end. The cast as a whole are very well suited for all of their roles, and it helps one to connect to each character. The movie comes off as if you are watching a live action comic book or manga. Featuring some very well done special effects, it also has a great rock soundtrack. I have to highly recommend this movie to all fans of Asian Cinema, and even those into anime.
Warning to all viewers: There is an American dubbing to this film done by MTV with popular rap stars, and it is an atrocious piece of work. Stay away from this by all means.

Any thoughts on Code Geass? Someone recommended it to me and I've watched 2 episodes but I can't decide if I want to finish it. Is it worth continuing with?

The dark anime, Monster, starts tonight on SyFy channel at 11:00 pm - 12:00 midnite (2 episodes). I haven't seen it before, but am really looking forward to it, as its not available on DVD in the states. I'm also a huge fan of dark thrillers and horror movies/anime.
I know it was mentioned in the beginning, but Old Boy is one of the sickest, but cool movies I've seen. Audition is also awesome!
Synopsis of Monster:
Kenzou Tenma, a brilliant Japanese brain surgeon working in Germany, saves the life of a small boy who has been shot in the head. Little does he know that doing so would destroy his entire career at the hospital and that his fiancé would leave him. When the hospital director and doctors of the hospital staff are suddenly murdered, he gets a second chance but also renders him as the main suspect to the murders. Life goes on for Tenma as he saves people at the hospital, and he goes back to the joy of being a surgeon again.Years later, an injured thief gets brought to the hospital. After Tenma saves his life, he finds out that the thief is involved with the rising count of serial murders happening in Germany. Suddenly Tenma is involved in it all when the little boy, who is now a young man, turns up and kills the thief in cold blood right in front of Tenma. Now Tenma must clear his name, find out more about the boy he saved in the past, and reevaluate what the value of life is.

if you like dark horror type anime then every Mon night at nine oclock on the chiller channel they put on a new anime horror movie every week. On SciFi they do AniMondays but most of the cartoons they choose to put on are kind of cheap like Rave Master. This week on chiller they are doing Ninja Scroll - although its not really a horror movie it is very violent.

CJ7 is on this month on the Encore Channel (I at least saw it in the On Demand movies on Comcast). Sounds pretty strange. There's also "Tokyo Raiders" ( Dungging Gungleuk)
Attack The Gas Station
This was one of the first Korean films I had seen. Attack the Gas Station is a crazy, over the top comedy about 4 guys who hold up a Gas Station and keep the Manager and employees hostage. Each character has their own background and history which help you connect with them.
No Mark aspired to play baseball but never had the opportunities as others. Mu Dae-Po has issues with authority and while many of his actions were of good nature, he always winds up being punished. He also carries a large stick throughout the movie. Yoo Ji-Tae had been an artist, but was constantly at odds with his father who never approved. Finally, Ddan Dda-Ra was kicked out of a Rock Band due to associating himself with shady characters.
Once the guys have taken over the gas station, they can't seem to find the money. With the manager not telling them about it, they finally decide to run the gas station themselves and keep the money. This leads to various run-ins with other gangs, police and customers. As these interactions occur, more hostages are taken. Each character even has some growth as a person by the end of the film, and you get to see what became of each character during the ending credits.
I highly recommend this movie to all fans of Asian or Korean cinema. This is one of those movies that still stands up 10 years later. Filled with comedy, a bit of action, and some social commentary on Korea in the '90s, you can't go wrong with Attack the Gas Station.
