Is offering an unscratched preorder code in exchange for a tip a jerk move?  I'd rather collect the bonuses than not get a tip for them (I like collecting things), but I'd be happy to trade them for 50 points.

theres no way to guarantee a tip for anything; if anyone requests a tip from me, i see it as being arrogant and theres a snowball's chance they're getting a tip then

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

That's when and how it'd get...weird.  You don't include the code with the game when you ship it, you offer it after it's on the way via a PM.  If they're interested, leave a tip and I'll snail mail the card or email the code (buyer's choice).  If not interested, don't tip, you still quickly got a game in great condition.

This sounds really shady. It would make me less likely to include a tip.

I think it depends on the user. However, never do this with DLC or codes that actually come with the game. Although DLC is optional, it is still part of the full package and you shouldn't ask someone to pay a tip to get something that came with it.

Codes only obtained at preorder is another thing. However, I wouldn't suggest it because there's nothing protecting you against a user deciding to not leave you a tip after the fact. Additionally, if there is a problem with the actual game, don't be expecting a tip at all.

I agree that it does, which is why I wanted to bring it up here first.  The last thing I want to do is to be a jerk or weird people out.

I've read several threads about tipping and have seen that there are a lot of folks out there who tip often and for good reasons.  Props to them!  I have also seen numerous people who proudly state that they'll never tip.  It's because of those posts that I'm not motivated to simply include these bonuses and chance it.  Like I said, it's not worth it to me.

Well my protection comes from requiring the tip to happen first.  That's my cue, as it were.  Obviously though this puts a risky feeling on the buyer which isn't cool either.

Ack, I took too long to post. The example you gave does sound shady. I think in your case you may be better off not sending it out.

Aye, I'm thinking I agree with you.  Thank you for the feedback.  What I'll likely do is just never mention it but counter-tip any tippers with the preorder code, assuming I have one.

One cool thing you could do is have forums contests to give away the goodies. A lot of people on the forums do that and the users love it.

I would not tip anyone that asked for one.  However I tip for many many things such as new users completing thier first trade, sealed games, games I really wanted, games in excellent condition, or just because I can.  But some people dont like tipping and that is fine, to each their own.

If I was in your situation I would either ebay the code or have a contest on the forums.  Chances are that if you send it out with the trade you wont get a tip since more people dont tip than do.
