I don't get it. He specifically said he doesn't like fanboys. So how can he possibly be a fanboy himself? It doesn't add up ...
I've got both, so here is my take. If you are leaning toward certain exclusives already you might as well get a free Blu-ray player with the PS3. I have to admit that the XBL network is much better for gaming online, but your not going to enjoy it (if your not playing the games that you wanted in the first place).
Also, from what I can tell the PS3 will probable eclipse the 360 some time in the near future in regards to overall game quality. It is a much more powerful machine, but developers haven't really been able to harness it's potential.
You should get both if you can. But if you can only buy one, i would go with the 360.
I say forget your friends. Be a rebel and go get a Wii. YEEAAHHHH!!!!
Or just flip a coin: 'Heads' you get a PS3, 'Tails' you don't get an Xbox 360.
I hate to be involved in these fanboy flame wars, but you should remember that PSN games can be shared on up to 5 consoles, which effectively reduces the cost of the games by 80% if you're intelligent enough to split the cost with a group of friends. This is also a note to the OP, if you have friends with Ps3's you can share your downloadable games with them, which is a pretty nice feature.
Anyways, good luck with the console choice. Just pick whichever console has the exclusives you want more... generally the best rule of thumb. It's not likely you're going to be playing with more than a few friends regularly anyways. At least not until the Xbox releases a game that supports all 50 of your friends at once. Lmao.
Have the OP made up his mind on which system he wants yet?
The most important factor is the games the console has exclusively. I love Left 4 Dead and Fable 2, to name a few 360 exclusives, so that's which console I have.

I have a 360 and my best friend has a PS3, so I don't have to deal to much with the exclusive title problem. RPGs used to be huge for the Playstation but are now only coming out on the Xbox 360. To me, it came down to mass effect being an exclusive for the 360, although Halo 3 and Gears of War were a good bonus. When it comes to online multiplayer, I like the 360's more, but it gets expensive.
Although the PS3 cost more initially because of the free online and included Blu-Ray, I think it's now the more cost-efficient. I've spent at least $75 through Gold Memberships months and Microsoft points.
Think about what kind of gamer you are. What kinds of games do you play, and how often will you play online? Look at a list of all the current games available, and think about games coming out in the future. Then you will know which is right for you.
Seems like a simple enough choice... Get the consoles with the exclusives you want to play. Yeah, playing with friends are nice, but it's not like you can play with all 50 friends of yours on the XBox anyways (Lol, I guess they need a Resistance-like game, or a MAG of their own :p). Are the exclusives you have in mind mostly multiplayer in nature? If so, then you'll enjoy not having to pay to play online year-after-year.
Blu-ray player is definitely a nice bonus if you have an HDTV and want to watch movies. I do both, so it's a worthwhile investment for me.
There's a great back-catalogue of games on both consoles, so you can't go wrong with either (like someone else already mentioned). But at the end of the day, it's the games YOU want to play that matters. If they're mostly on the PS3, then you get a PS3. Otherwise, get a 360 (or a Wii, rofl).
I have a 360 because all my friends have one and the exclusives (Halo, Gears, L4D, ect.). But I can see the exclusives not being an issue if you're not big on shooters. I would still go with the 360 if you play multiplayer at all b/c of the superior community (both overall and 50 friends vs. 8 friends).

The benefit of having 50 friends with a system over 7 friends with a system isn't that you can play with all of them at once, it's that you're more likely to have friends online to play a game with when you're online.

Gamesharing is illegal. The point of this feature is so you are able to play your games on someone elses console. It is not intended to be used for gamesharing.
