Easily the PS3.
I had the exact same dilemma a while back when I switched from 360 to ps3. I haven't enjoyed any of 360's exclusives since about 2 years ago (whenever halo 3 dropped) so i'm happy I jumped ship because I'm loving the ps3's exclusives.
But even now, 360 still has nothing that interests me at all. I played odst, bored me and I thought I was going to have envy. Haven't heard jack about future games.
Heavy Rain and God of War III. That's enough to make me buy a console alone not to mention MGS4 was my favorite game of all time. My experience was I made plenty of new friends on PSN, and I had basically the same experience as Xbox live. The only thing missing is cross game chat which I would love and I'm sure will come some day. But the idea is to have fun and you've gotta play games that are actually fun to you for that to happen.
bhhawks78: 360 The cost of live (only fools pay more than 25-30 every 13 months) is more than offset by the fact you can often find ms point cards for 30-50% off meaning all your arcade/DLC is that much cheaper.
360

That is a pretty good point, I don't often see any deals for PSN cards for DLC, there's more opportunity to save money there but you're still paying $25-30 for online access, more if you use wifi. Would you rather pay more for DLC or for the....ability to use the internet? Up to you. Like I was saying, it's all about what you like, so if you like the layout of the 360 then the price really doesn't matter, does it? Besides which, the OP never even mentioned price, so I'd wager he's just interested in getting a console, and wants some opinions before digging in. Whichever he chooses he's sure to enjoy it, but if he says he likes the games on the PS3 more then maybe he should get a PS3. Just saying.
Also both systems (yes even the jasper) have a pretty bad failure rate, but when a 360 dies Microsoft will actually cover it for 3 years, Sony just one so have fun paying 150$ to get their faulty hardware fixed.
I really hate this argument, it doesn't even make any valid points. I mean, the PS3 has such a low failure rate, especially in comparison to the 360, that saying the 1 year sony warranty is a strike against the PS3 is ridiculous. In the 3 years you have your 360 under warranty you have between a 1 in 2 and 1 in 3 chance of the system failing, which is why Microsoft is forced to give such a long warranty. In the same time frame with a PS3 you have between a 1 in 100 and 1 in 300 chance of your system failing. This is an acceptable failure rate, so Sony has no legal obligation to give you a longer warranty. The "Yellow Light of Death" is actually a protective device designed to keep the system from doing what the 360 has such a big problem with -- overheating. I've had my ps3 for over a year, kept it on overnight a few times, known people who went weeks without ever turning it off, and it still never failed on them. Saying "you can get it fixed for free if it breaks" isn't a sign of quality, it's a sign of the exact opposite. The PS3 is hardly faulty hardware in comparison to the 360, and usually if their hardware is faulty for whatever reason, the problem is usually found within the first few weeks of purchase, which are covered by the warranty.
This isn't even on topic, it just bugs me when people try to spread misinformation about this stuff -- it's riduclous and it's not even necessary. Who cares about this stuff next to the games? You think someone who plays the hell out of their 360 is going to care whether it breaks a lot? You think someone who plays the hell out of their PS3 is going to be upset if it ever breaks out of warranty? What's being discussed here is not the common fanboy BS that gets spewed every time someone tries to ask an earnest question. Rather the OP asks for honest opinions and would probably much rather have real examples than to have the thread wander off into a flame war.
Sorry, just gets on my nerves.
I own both consoles but the online community, the fact multiplatform games look better on 360 usually (which is hilarious)
Are you using HDMI, Component, or Composite? The idea that DVD can look better than Blu-ray is laughable. However, if a game is designed for one console first and ported to the other, obviously it's going to look better on the console it was designed for first. A lot of games are designed for the 360 first, which explains it. I can see how this would be a concern for some people when playing games, but this still feels like fanboy BS to me.
library of games, an actual decent controller, and features like netflix streaming make the choice so one sided I don't understand those who only have one console choosing otherwise.
Well it's your opinion that the 360 is better. Like I've been saying, it depends on the layout you like best. The OP said he was more interested in PS3 games, is that hard for you to understand if you have so much trouble understanding people who choose otherwise? You've got to be accepting of other people's opinions and they're likes and dislikes and whatnot, you can't just be elitist about everything.
I still say the OP should choose based on what matters most to them. If they want to play the PS3 games, get the PS3. If their desire to play with more friends is more important to them, get the 360. Either way, fun can be had on either system.

It's really not very accurate at this point. The vast majority of multiplatform games looks the same on both systems. There's a few exceptions like Fallout 3 and Ghostbusters, but those are exceptions rather than the rule at this point. He may have had a point back in 2007 when people were making 30 FPS versions of Madden and things of that nature.
Sounds like you're already leaning towards the PS3. If I were you I'd just get the PS3, what really sets the 360 and PS3 apart is obviously the exclusives for each system. And by reading the OP you already know which exclusives you want to play. There are some benefits to owning a 360 (i.e. better party system and in game voice chat) but of course that doesn't come free. Microsoft also pays for timed exclusives for the XBOX 360, but if you can wait it shouldn't be a problem, a lot of 360 "exclusives" are popping up on the PS3 anyway.
Even if you only have 8 friends on the PSN, remember as you become more active and play online people will send you friend invites and you can send people invites as well. So friends shouldn't be an issue.
My only complaint I have about the PS3 is the online gameplay for some games are broken. Other than that they're pretty much equivalent to me.
Oh good! This week's been pretty dry for console flame war threads.
I-Weapon-X: kandal:I hate having to cough up 40 or more dollars for a new subscription of xbox live. this is always a horrible point as many times in the year there are sales and deals where you can get 13 months for as low as $20 (more realistically $30); even at $40 for a 13 month card that comes to about $0.10 a day for a superb online community/experience

If you live in Canada these deals are not to be had :(.

Canada's been in Sony's pocket for six generations.

lol, I was thinking the same thing, though the last one went exactly the same way; a potential PS3 owner sidetracked by the 360.
I'm just going to write up a long Pros and Cons reply for each system and save it as a document on my desktop for an easy post a week.

I find it annoying seeing this exact thread every week, but it always pulls me in and the OP always sounds like he already has his mind made up.
There are pluses and minuses for both that have been pointed out, but I would like to add that new 360's don't have the hardware problems of the past, so don't bring that argument up for new buyers anymore. My argument over not buying both and just picking only one is that if you have a job/school/outside life, you probably won't have time for every game that comes out that you want to play (Goozex lets you get a lot more games than if you were only buying and renting).
A funny read here about fanboys.

I'm sure it will be extremely fair and unbiased.

just to note that this is not necessarily true as even the Jasper chips still have RR'd

There will be a pie chart to prove its unbias nature.

I'm a fool for paying for XBL period, just because my friends invite me to play Halo. Once again I'd like to stress that the only games I play on Xbox is Halo.. I don't see anything else on there to pleasure my soul. I do admit that the 360 online feature such as joining and inviting friends into a game is easier. Still, the PS3 isn't as far behind when it comes doing the same process at a FREE Rate.. Keyword FREE!!
You mention deals of 40-50% off of XBOX Live Points? How much/long do you have to wait for a deal like that to come around? Well to counter that point, PS3 Offer GameSharing which I'm very fond of. 1 User name shared up to 5 PS3 Systems. Basically you are getting games off the PSN for the price of 1/5. This is the mere fact that I have so many amazing PSN titles for the price of 80% off. It can't get any better than that... or can it?
You be the judge. My point is simple, I prefer using the PS3 over the Xbox because of the free online and amazing discount on PSN Titles. Also I might as well add PlayStation Home is an amazing feature to social online. I have a blast spending time on there with my Friends Family all the time.

If you have any interest in playing online, there is really no contest. There is a reason it's $50 a year vs. free. This is one instance where you really do get what you pay for.
