I wrote a series of posts recounting my subjective list of The 25 Best PS2 Games I've ever played, and I thought I would share this with the community.
I don't claim that it is a definitive list by any means, as I've actually had to have played the game for it to be on the list, and even though I've played a lot of PS2 games, I have not played all the excellent ones as of yet.
I thought it could be the start of an interesting discussion.
Pretty cool list. I like and respect how it's more of a "games I enjoyed" list than an attempt to make a consensus based list of games everyone likes. There's some interesting choices there (and I'll confess I haven't played many of them), but you're good about actually devoting enough space to explain why you included it. Similar top 10-25 lists I've read did a crappy job of explaining why I should care about the games they are jotting off, but your list actually convinced me to try a few of the games on there that I hadn't played yet!
haven't played a good amount of games on that list and might look into some of them; can 100% say i do not agree with your number one though
I don't have a PS2, but I've played a few of the PC versions on the list and found them to be pretty good.
disgaea, katamari, red dead revolver, and time splitters future perfect would have easily been on my top 25 -- probably all in the top 10 somewhere so I approve of the majority of this list but I cant stand Ace Combat so I would have thrown that one out
Hey nice list! I might have to dust off the PS2 and pick up a few of these titles....
JurassicUtility: I looked through some other lists after I had my 25 down on paper to see how off the trail I might have gotten with some of my selections, and I agree that there are times where people putting these things together don't explain their selections well enough.
IWX: I expected that you might disagree with my #1 choice (as would other people). And there is a particular selection that I know a lot of people make for lists like these that I am really ambivalent about personally (God of War and Gran Turismo 4 appear on most of these kinds of lists... but they were games that just didn't do it for me).
Larpi: Different strokes for different folks my friend. I can fully understand how Ace Combat might not be up everyone's alley...
I disagree with just about everything on the list, but it was an interesting read.
Heh, I see a few war, racing, stealth, and flight simulation type games, all of which are my least favorite genres =(. I do like the fact that Katamari Damacy is high up at #2 as that was one of my favorite PS2 games. Being that I'm more of a fantasy, RPG, and music game fan, my top 25 would include Final Fantasy X, Dark Cloud, Jak and Daxter, Frequency, Guitar Hero 1, one of the DDR games which had a nice selection of songs on it (I don't remember which one), and Katamari Damacy.
Played most most of those and I would have arranged them differently, but it was an interesting read nevertheless.
Interesting list. I'm a little surprised at some that didn't make the top 25, but to each his/her own. Personally, I can't stand the GTA series.
My top 25 would have to include SSX, Onimusha, God of War, Final Fantasy X., Devil May Cry, and the original Guitar Hero.

damn open world games
I think the fact that a) I didn't play a lot of rpgs over the past 4 years or so and b) that there are some very good games in my backlog, a lot of which are the quality titles relating to the first point, may be a couple of reasons why there are some objections to my choices.
However, I really have my doubts that anything in my backlog would push the game that is #1 on my list out of that spot. Though again, I may be shocked and awed
Being as most of the best PS2 games are RPGs, and there are no RPGs on your list... The only one I would agree with is Katamari. I love MUA, but you can play it on a real system. Missing Shadowhearts, Xenosaga, FFX, Cold Winter, Balder's Gate, Summoner I and II, just for a start. At least Kingdom Hearts wasn't on the list...

You personally like and enjoy RPG genre (much in the same way I enjoy action and the sandbox aesthetic) but critical consensus doesn't exactly bear that statement out.
Granted, there are games on my list (Urban Chaos especially) which don't have a sterling record with critics either.
