This thread just prompted me to trade mine! Man it's a pretty box set. Shame it's one of those shows I don't really feel a giant urge to rewatch (Why again, did I buy the DVDs?)

The seller has sent 20 trades out and not received a single negative yet, so I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't an intentional scam.  One of his positives is actually Carnivale season two, I'm tempted to contact the buyer in that case and see if he also got a bootleg and just didn't realize it at the time.  It's obvious to me that it's not something he just whipped up himself for the sake of trading here, since the condition of the box and discs have definitely seen use/abuse.

However, like others have pointed out, if I just cancel the trade and get my points back, some other unlucky soul is probably going to end up with this gimped version and just have to go through the same motions.

I'm going to wait and see if he responds to my PMs.  If not, I'm just going to have to slap him with a big fat negative.

Make sure you don't wait too long. Otherwise, Goozex will automatically give him a positive.

Not necessarily. If he was truly unaware it was a bootleg version and you let him know and things got canceled smoothly, he would (hopefully) not relist knowing of the mistake he made.

If there was a successful trade of season 2, I find it damn near impossible to miss a bootleg that bad of season 1. They're identical in make and quality, just different colors.

I'd try and work out a cancel, if you can't I would suggest giving a negative for it not working, a -250 may stop this guy from mailing out potential trades. People made mistakes, they should not be punished permately for a simple mistake. -10 will be good.

Good news is, you get you're 500 goozex points back, and you can watch the pirated copy without paying any goozex points. (Unless you're a collector.)

If it's like most bootlegs the video quality probably isn't all that great.

Heh, yeah, I've already seen the show, actually.  I rented the entire series from Netflix and loved it so much I wanted to own it.

That would be falsifying feedback, and either way there's a good chance you're sending the copy in to HQ to be sorted out proper.

It's not like trading on goozex with a postive rep is an intrinsic right or someone is going to suffer because they can't request games. The rules are pretty simple, send out bootlegs and get -250 points. Sending out a shitty bootleg isn't a simple mistake either, that's pretty deliberate. If he has 20 positive trades, he only needs to make 6 more to get back to positive, that's not difficult.

Um, if someone is knowingly sending out bootlegs and illegal copies... I'm pretty sure that's exactly what we want to happen.  There's a reason that bootlegs carry a -250 hit to your feedback.

I may sound like an ass for saying this, but whether he's legit or not, please do the rest of us a favor and neg him. He needs to learn a life lesson. Nobody here should have to suffer because he doesn't have the common sense the rest of us do to realize the $10 boxset he just got from CheapMovieAmUs.freewebhost.com probably isn't the real deal when it's selling for $50 at Amazon.

Leave him the -250 and everybody wins. Hopefully in the future he'll pay more attention to what he buys and where he gets it from. A -10 slap on the wrist or a no harm no foul cancellation is just going to encourage him to continue his lazy misinformed ways.
