10 years ago today, Sega's last gasp in the console wars was released to the masses.  It set the tone for what gamers could expect for the next decade: built in online play, incredible games, new franchises and a man-hands style interface which would later be the basis for the original Xbox "Duke" controller.

Besides bringing this up out of nostalgia and respect to Sega's hardware swan song, we also have a new release on the horizon in October - a mere 7 years or so since a non-homebrew game has come to the platform.

Rush Rally Racing looks to bring some retro multiplayer fun back to the ol' Dreamcast.  It looks like it will only be sold through eBay and Amazon - though hopefully we'll see a proper listing on Goozex.

What do you mean?  I think R^4 has what it takes to take out GT5!

Just look at the saucer with arms in the background!  A cow too?  You won't get anything close to that in GT5, I'll tell you THAT!

I hate to say, that music was AWESOME. Looks like an awesome flash game.

But in all seriousness, that was probably the worst video game advertisement I've ever seen. Why was there a flying saucer in the background? Aliens at the end with that lame "interrupt" effect?

I still own my launch Japanese Dreamcast. I preordered it with about 6 or 7 games. Only one I still own is Puyo Puyo 4, one of the best puzzle games ever.  It had 4 player Versus and we used to play the hell out of it in our Air Force dorms. XD

After (again) hooking up my Dreamcast, i'm a little amazed it still plays.  It took a nasty soda spill years ago that splashed under the disc cover and got on the lense.  After a cleanup, it just kept on going strong.

Looking at it now, the area around the disc is discolored and the hinge for the lid is a little wacky, but this baby is a diehard.  It seems like modern consoles can have any number of issues pop up just by looking at it the wrong way.  Conversely, I have no doubt I could heave this beast through my living room window, retrieve it off the lawn, brush it off, hook it right back up and keep playing.

Time for some Sword of the Berserk...  Beer

Mine survived a trip down my wooden stairway and lived to see another day with a sole, albeit, very long black scuff mark. I just finished a crapload of multi-player rounds of various Dreamcast greats (Prop. Arena, Daytona USA, MSR, VF 3 etc.).

With that being said, it has been less than 7 years since a commercial release. In March 2007 Dreamcast received Karous by Milestone, which is (and will remain to be) the system's last official 3rd party release because SEGA quit printing GD-Roms after it's release. It's sad, because 3-4 developers intended to keep on making Dreamcast ports.

Software sales were still relatively good, Under Defeat sold somewhere between 14,000-20,000 units. Solid sales for a SHMUP on a 'dead' console.

Wild horses couldn't drag me away.

Looks like a N64/PS1 reboot of RC Pro-Am or something. Still pretty cool people are still messing around with DC development though.

For a system I initially didn't support at launch (because I felt burned from supporting the short lived Sega CD, 32X and Saturn before it), it became a console I later loved.

Doubtful I'll be searching this new title out as I'll just keep enjoying the classics I already have from time to time.

The Saturn is one of the most hardcore consoles of all time though? It dominated the Shmup, and Fighting genres during it's lifespan. It even had some great RPGs (Dragon Force, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III), Treasure released arguably their best game of all time, Guardian Heroes, on the system. Nights, Burning Rangers, the beginning of the Panzer Dragoon Series?

It's a very expensive system to collect for now (Taromaru has gone for over $400, Panzer Dragoon Saga fetches $250 regularly and Radiant Silvergun isn't too much cheaper), and that's truly unfortunate, because it had some great games.

Looks more like an updated version of Micro  Machines for NES, with some elements of the original GTA and GTA 2 thrown in.  I'm totally interested in this though.
