- Mediocre games like Chrome or Space Siege or Fable would not been made suddenly 'good' by adding achievements.

But to debate your earlier point - they would not be made worse by adding achievements either. We have already seen Sony retrofit trophies onto games and it did not "ruin" them.

Has there been Sony titles that actually created trophies for a missed title?

The only game to receive late trophies that I know of was Uncharted, which mirrored the in game achievements to a T, so there wasn't really any risk there.

Super Stardust HD, Warhawk, GTA IV, and Fallout 3 spring to mind. I'm pretty sure there's been quite a few.

Absolutely agree - my point was that, as Vinchenzo illustrated on page 2, consumers will respond as much to 'bragging rights' as to good design, and since as you say the number of well made games is pretty low to begin with, encouraging publishers to hold back for DLC and substitute easy Trophies for solid design is not exactly a positive direction for gaming.

And this surprises you? Big Smile

They already said PSP trophies are not coming because of the huge amount of hackers who would just steal games and therefore inflate their percentages. And they want to keep the trophy platform nice and fair

I think it would be a great idea to implement trophies for PSP games.  Seeing as the PS3 and the PSP share similarities in the XMB, they could make an identical design.

Again trophies for handhelds are stupid.

1. Handhelds are easily hackable

2. You seriously want to have to sit through 2 Hannah Montana games for the same trophies? (This is why 360 is for achievements and PS3 is for fun!)

3. The only ones who really think this is a good idea are gamers who haven't really played video games before achievements.

I don't really see the argument against trophies, apart from the hacking aspect.   Like any year, there's going to a crapload of bad video games released and some good ones made.  To say that trophies or achievements makes games worse si not a conclusion you can immediately go to.   If a developer is intent on making a good game, they're going to, and won't cheap with trophies.  If they're gogin to cut corners just to get aproduct out, they'll do that.

I like trophies for a few reasons.  The one that always comes to mind is increased replay value, since after you beat the game, it's essentially a list of other objectives and goals you can shoot for besides just "beating the game"

Trophies aren't integral to me. If a game is good, I'm gonna play it regardless of trophies or not.   But if it has trophies, I consider it an extra bonus.  Like getting a little gold star on your test paper in grade school that meant nothign, but still felt nice.

It's also really really nice to be able to look up your friends on your friends lists and just see what games theyve been playign recently and what they've done in it.  This is particularly helpful in quickly pinpointing games you might have in common to play multiplayer.

To say the only ones who support trophies are new gamers is kind of a broad statement. Hell, I've been gaming since Reagan.

Dude, I've been playing games since PS1. Reason 3 on your list really doesn't make sense at all.

I am 36 and have played video games since the early 80s's. You are wrong.

And to think I just play games because they are GOOD!

So do most people, but what's wrong with trying for achievements in games you enjoy? I've put extra time into some games for achievements, but only because I really enjoyed the game and wanted to keep playing it (Stuntman Ignition, Assassin's Creed, Dead Rising, to name three).

Maybe he meant 'immature'!  Big Smile

Oh wait, I'm not a fan of achievements, so that can't be it ...

1. And consoles aren't?

2.  I don't get games for achievements. However I will go for achievements on games I enjoy playing. So yes, going back and adding trophies for Hot Shot: golf Open Tee, or Wipeout Pure would be fine, since I love those games and wouldn't mind playing through them again.

3.  My first console would be a SNES, however I made great use of my parent's old 2600 before I got the SNES so wrong.
