The menus do take forever to go through, one big downside to it. Somehow that isn't enough to make me want to pay $50 a year, though. Call me crazy.

In 2 minutes I found a 13 month card on sale online for $37.99. Nobody with any common sense pays $50+ a year.

This one went out of stock since earlier, but a quick Google shopping search will net you what you need. You can find them on Amazon for around $40 as well.

If I were you I would keep looking for the deals between now and December. Nobody pays $50 unless they are clueless.

I've seen a lot of 12 monthers for 39.99 - Walmart (gift card), Amazon, everyone has them.    I'm not in a big rush though so I'm trying to keep my eyes peeled for good deals on this and the hard drive between now and then.    Not wasting the money on a 20 GB hard drive after thinking about it - 13 GB in usable space is almost worthless and I'll surely be getting a larger drive at some point even using this as my secondary console if I go that route.

And actually, you get a 1 month Live thing for free with the box, and my buddy gave me another month.   So I have until late February to come up with a deal on Live.

Sorry to derail, I would have done 13 for 37.99 today and not wasted anymore time looking for deals.

Yeah, I would definitely recommend getting at least a 60 GB HDD, and these forums are ALL about thread derails. Smile

An update on my Netflix trial - they got the GI Joe Blu Ray to me on Saturday.   It was a crappy movie, but that's my fault.   Well, actually whoever scripted it's fault, but I did rent it so I'll put it on me.    Very fast delivery, and I managed to get something released on Tuesday.   Not bad.   Sending this back today, we'll see how quick they turn around my next movie.    I only have 2 things in my queue despite them recommending 6.

Still no email on the streaming disc, which is getting a bit annoying.    The whole "reserve disc" thing is pretty annoying as a whole, there's nothing in your account showing you requested it.    Just that annoying "Thank you for reserving screen".    You'd think they could at least send you a confirmation email or something, but no.

Hopefully this arrives soon.

Not seeing anything myself, I may try and send them an email bugging them or something.

Likewise on the day turnaround.

I may have accidentally requested a second streaming disc when I went to activate my own (signed in as wife instead of self), so if it shows up, I'll let you know...just in case yours doesn't pan out.

They sent me email to let me know when it arrives.

Yep, I signed up the day it was announced and got an email on Thursday that said: "For Friday: Netflix PS3 Streaming Disc."  It was a little trippy opening it up because the envelope doesn't have the typical return address stuff.

I'm planning on picking up a pack of blu cases so I can keep it on my shelf instead of just sitting in its sleeve.  There's a couple other forums that are working on nice inserts for it.

As for the service, the turnaround is pretty much the fastest available.  My wife and I are on the 1-at-a-time unlimited plan, and we typically go through  8 movies a month.  That's one for the weekend, then mail it out on Monday to get a new one on Wednesday.  Watch it Wednesday, mail it out Thursday and the next one shows up on Saturday.  It's a pretty good system.

I got my disc on Friday, and worked quite well on my PS3.  I am not a big fan of the movies being only sortable by queue order however, I have gotten pretty used to the alphabetical sorting that PlayOn does.  But it was free, and the interface is simple, so I'm not too upset.

Regarding Netflix turnaround : in my experience, they almost always get a disc the day after I mail it, and then I get my new one thye day after that.  I have found that a big help for this is when you return a disc, make sure the barcode is visible through the little window on the front of the envelope.  I am not positive, but I think the few times there has been a two day turnaround for me might have been the result of a disc not having the barcode showing, so I assume there is some automatic scanning that can't be done if the barcode is hidden.

The wife and I are on the 2 DVD at a time plan, and usually go through 10-15 discs a month.  We end up going trhough more when we are watching a good series; I don't think we ever had a disc of Six Feet Under for more than 2 days.

I've always been afraid of NOT doing that.  I'm not 100% sure my wife takes as much notice with her DVDs though.

This post is waiting for mafafu to find a $34.99 Live card sale. Wink

Too slow. I paid $29.99 for mine via Buy.com no less than 6 months ago.

I paid $30 for my last 12 month card as well.

Yes, because the point of my post was to inspire you all to find a better deal on it. There was no sarcasm at all intended it my original post, I was only hoping someone would find me an even better deal on something that should be free in the first place. After all, who doesn't want to pay more money than they already do for internet service just for the privilege of being able to use it to play games online and access the internet with their video game console? Not me! Please, charge me more money!

Man, Sony must be crazy. FREE connection to the internet?! You don't have to pay one cent extra?! What are they thinking! I bet their internet connection SUCKS! Obviously it's just so much different from Xbox Live, and Live has so many other HUGE, IMPORTANT FEATURES that are totally worth paying out of pocket for each and every year.

Perhaps I use sarcasm a bit too much, because sometimes I think people have never even heard of the concept.

But yeah, the point was to say that paying nothing to access the internet on a console sells me on Netflix on the PS3 over Netflix on the 360 anyday, regardless of any small issues here and there.

and dear god I hope people can keep their heads on before getting all mad at me for making sarcastic comments about Xbox Live.

For the latest news on Games, Movies, and everything geeky!

Until a couple of weeks ago the Xbox fanboys were all able to say that this was an exclusive feature.   Throw them a bone, with the PS3 exclusives this fall along with their exclusive features biting the dust they need something to pick at.   Stick out tongue

Next up - PS3 gets free cross game voice chat (rumors are already out there), too bad that freebie is also "slower and clunkier".   Ya get what ya pay for.   Or don't - take your pick.  Smile

So, anyone with a Blu-ray player try the disc in there yet? Does it work?
