My sister is watching spongebob on the PS3 right now and the quality is noticeably better than the PC streams for some reason. My PC is wired and PS3 isn't so I don't think it's a connection issue.
I'll probably stick to using my PC to stream since my monitor is pretty large and the interface is more convenient. But I can see this being useful in the future.

Hi there.
I'm just wondering....how many times do I have to say "Microsoft Silverlight throttles the instant streaming from Netflix on the PC" before people....you know....catch on to the fact that I'm not just full of it. Why is the quality not as good? Because Silverlight isn't streaming it nearly as fast as it is streaming on your PS3.
I have to say though, this is everything I had hoped for and more. I just tested it for the first time, and I love how it tells you which content is in HD and which isn't. It all streams in either 480p or 720p, so it's nice to know that technically it's all high def, even though 480p is the lowest HD you can get. I tried out Primer first, a movie in HD streaming @720p, and the quality was pretty much a dead on match for an upconverted DVD. Considering I have the DVD for that title, I can pretty definitively make that statement and back it up if necessary. I then tried out The Shawshank Redemption, sadly only 480p. However, the quality was still a lot better than I expected. There were almost no artifacting issues, and while the image was definitely blurry and obviously not the highest quality, it still exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable.
I am VERY happy with the results for this service. I haven't poked around too much, but it looks like it has about the same features as it did when it first debuted on the 360. At least I don't have to rely on PC streaming and Silverlight quality anymore, though, so I got everything I wanted out of it just in that fact.

Yeah, based on my experiences you are 100% correct. My first impression when watching something was "this doesn't look nearly as good as it did at my buddy's an hour ago". Funny thing is that my buddy said that "whenever he wanted to watch something HD, he did it on his PC". So I'm taking him at his word and poking around for settings only to find out that there are none, you can't do HD on the PC version of it, and the like you said the reason that it looked like crap is because even their max bitrate it pretty crappy on the PC. And it had nothing to do with my connection, because I'm watching the little gray bar grow far faster than the movie is running - I had room to spare, and then some.
Netflix on PC = the suck. I'm very happy you guys are all saying this looks like I expected after seeing it at my buddy's place through his 360 and then seeing this nasty garbage on my PC.
As for the interface, I'm not expecting much. Based on what I saw, the Xbox interface still blows even to this day. It's really nothing special and is kind of a pain to search for what you want to see. Queueing the movies up seems far better on the PC.
I just tried this on my ps3 (got disc yesterday) and it seems really slow. Even though its free i like 360 better.
480p is not high def.
but it looks good either way

The menus do take forever to go through, one big downside to it. Somehow that isn't enough to make me want to pay $50 a year, though. Call me crazy.

In 2 minutes I found a 13 month card on sale online for $37.99. Nobody with any common sense pays $50+ a year.

Let me rephrase my previous statement, then.

Too slow. I paid $29.99 for mine via Buy.com no less than 6 months ago.

I paid $30 for my last 12 month card as well.
...back on topic of Netflix on the PS3, I actually got to use it over the weekend and it was quite enjoyable. No stuttering in the content, looked good, and I was even able to add new things to my instant queue via the interface...not via a search, mind you, but each category had a wealth of titles that loaded promply enough. There was a small pause between finding a title and clicking it to bring up its summary, but even then it appeared that as I used it, it loaded a little bit faster.
Speed up the interface just a tad and eventually remove the disc and the service would be spot on. The disk is a bit of a shortcoming, in that I'm lazy.

This one went out of stock since earlier, but a quick Google shopping search will net you what you need. You can find them on Amazon for around $40 as well.
If I were you I would keep looking for the deals between now and December. Nobody pays $50 unless they are clueless.
