Bootleg as in imports?, since Japan isn't illegal on copying stuff, then r sold and distributed, theirs even companies who do this purely.

No not like import DVDs from Japan, we're talking bootleg. They were once known as HK Silvers, they are pressed DVDs in nice gatefold cases however they aren't distributed by the company that owns the rights to them. The companies like FX will take a full series of lets say Dragon Ball Z rip the DVDs and then make their own DVDs with their pressing machine and resale it.

Anime has a massive bootlegging problem... which would pretty much disappear if the animation copyright holders charged reasonable amounts for their dvds and box sets. Setting the price at 100 - 300 bucks for a box set of anime is insane.... no series is worth that, except to a collector. And somehow they still don't see why shady business's can make a profit copying and selling the DVDs for a fraction of that cost.

Even though I can afford the prices for most anime sets, I won't buy them. I don't like being ripped off by companies who secure the rights of properties they didn't create.

I know I'd buy more anime if they charged reasonable prices.

Not really any of my business but did you happen to check with the seller to see if he\she knew it was bootleg? I was just thinking if they didn't know then going straight to a -250 is kind of messed up. I don't know about everyone else but i always try to work these things out if something goes wrong. For instance I had a game show up broken once(probably during shipping) and instead of going ahead and giving a neg I contacted the seller and had them cancel the trade (so I would keep my spot in line). I just think giving a neg should only be employed if the seller refuses to coooperate.

Just my idea of what us goozexers should do :-)

I agree, rightstuf is awesome. They have some pretty cool deals. My friend and I ordered together during their Christmas in July sale. We got a lot of dvds, mangas, and a cool Menchi hat for $4 each plus free shipping! I think most of their stuff comes from overstocks and from stores like Best Buy that decide to no longer carry certain anime dvds.

I used to order from ADV's site before it died, but I hated how they often drilled holes through the bar codes and into the cases. It really pissed me off because one of the dvds was very close to being damaged =(. But Rightstuf's dvds are sealed and undrilled/unmarked, just like retail copies. One of mine actually still had a Best Buy sticker on it! :)

Theirs domestic and imports, and since copying stuff in Japan really isn't illegal, they bootleg the stuff, but its not crappy bootleg though, even the box art and cover all look nice, and the quality on the imports r as good as they r on the original domestics.

This truly is a shame, because we ultimately tend to trade stuff away; so if someone doesn't know what they have is a bootleg, it's a shame.  I was at a flea market and they had the complete series of Hellsing on fewer discs than what was listed on Goozex.  That's what tipped me off to possible bootleg.  I then looked it up on Amazon, and someone in the comments put that it's a bootleg.  I happen to get lucky, but most probably would have jumped at the deal.  I don't plan on collecting these DVDs, so I want to get legit stuff.

I only own 2 bootlegs. Kimagure Orange Road Complete Set and DNA^2 complete.  Both weren't out on DVD here. I am working to get the original sets if possible, but I would never trade them out on here, It's so blatant.

I actually had the first 2 seasons of InuYasha on Bootleg. So I ended up just giving them away at one of the Meetups at White Flint since I couldn't ask anything for them.

Are you trying to say that there's no copyright law in Japan?

had to leave my first negative for a bootleg anime disc. It was so blatantly evident it was bootleg, that ti still had the Taiwanese e-mail address from the bootleg site that sold it. No indication of the American company on the case, and the cover art didn't match the U.S. release either. Hate hitting someone with -250, but I had no choice. Maybe they'll pay to have me ship it back and cancel.

my friend buys bootleg TV series on ebay... for him a few episodes of Xfiles of whatever that don't work is worth the 90% savings.

I won't buy bootleg tho, I don't like that the original creator gets nothing.

I dont get why people would purposly buy a bootlegged dvd.  If you know it is a bootleg and the creators are not getting any money from it why not just download it.  Both are just as illegal so if you are going to do something illegal why not do the free one.
