Dead Rising was a game where I was frustrated, but it really got better for me the longer I stuck with it.

pallybear: Okay, here's my list: Okami (PS2) - I love the art and beautiful graphics, but I just couldn't get into it, and it felt like a Zelda rip-off. Paper Mario games - meh. The only RPG with Mario in it that I thought was good was Mario RPG. That game was awesome! Panzar Dragoon Saga (Sega Saturn) - Wow. What an over-rated POS. This is a collector's item and fetches $100 + for a copy. It was supposed to be better than FFVII. Persona games - Cool concept, but the games didn't really grab me. Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64) - You have a fixed amount of time to save the world? You have to play the same days over and over again to complete tasks. Yuck.

Zelda MM is definitely a game I get flamed for not liking. It doesn't even feel like a zelda game, the entire concept of "whoops you ran out of time, start over" is punishing by design.
As much as I love Batman AA I have to say it is a bit Zelda ish, although thankfully on the OOT side of things, no silly "timer" until you do challenges. They make the Batman game seem open, but it's really not. You upgrade your gadget, then use that upgraded gadget in the next level...
Again great game, but there are some times where I'm like "why is that one wall "weak" but the other walls can not be blown up?" It's really pretty linear and the choices are few early on.
Add another one for Dead Rising. The gameplay was fun... the premise was awesome, and I genuinely enjoyed playing it... but every other game element aside from the actual combat and zombie filled mall was almost designed to suck the fun out of it.
I can't get over the clock, worst of all. Having to run from one place to another desperately hoping to make it in time to advance the plot was idiotic. Not to mention having to go through the game <and the unskippable bits of story> over and over again in order to advance in the game. Whatever uniqueness and fun the plot had was destroyed by the 3rd go through. Combine those with the idiotic AI of your rescuees.... and Otis. Always Otis.
It seemed like all the really good development went into the premise and combat... and it left idiots to plot the details.
Mirror's Edge. I was so hyped for it. Sadly they ruined a game about movement by adding the frustrating combat & shooting. So disappointed.
I didn't like the gun fights in DR. Should it really take 75 shots to the face from a high-powered assault rifle to drop a soldier?
As for the clock, I had to restart the game numerous times because in the early stages of the game you don't know where everything is. Eventually I gave up trying to rescue people and just concentrated on playing "beat the clock."
Even if it meant sitting around for 15 minutes of real time with nothing happening, I was determined not to miss anything.
That said, I did enjoy playing the game because the underlying concept was sound and well-executed. But I had to "put up with it" a lot of the time instead of just enjoying it.
Veiwtiful joe.
Ninja Gaiden 2 and Burnout Paradise for the 360. Both of those, I am trying to begrudginly soldier through but I have no desire to play them.
Guess I should just trade em away for something that I would like a heck of a lot more...Sounds like I will avoid picking up Dead Rising though.
@ Makoo1 - I agree, GOW 2 multiplayer still gives a huge advantage to host. It sucks my balls!!
Gears of War. I really tried. I played it to completion because I thought it would get better.
What a great thread!
I'm a big fan of both Final Fantasy and Disney, so I was very excited about Kingdom Hearts.... and hated every minute of it. I sold the game and bought the manga.
Also, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - it just wasn't the same as OoT, and it couldn't hold my attention.

Kingdom Hearts gets my vote as well.
More recently I'd have to go with Sacred 2. I really wanted to like the game but I just couldn't.
EDIT: I forgot to mention every Zelda game since it went 3D. The only Zelda game I actually finished since it's switch to 3D was Wind Waker and thats only because of how interested my wife was with it.
Most recently? Sonic Unleashed, for sure. The music was great, the visuals were top-notch, the level design was cool, and the sense of speed the day levels boasted was great enough to make up for the lack of exploration.
The night levels ruined it all.
Mine:
Fallout 3 and Oblivion - I'm still trying to get into them, just bought a used guide for Oblivion for $5 at a used bookstore. About 5-6 hours into Oblivion, and still finding myself doing nothing but running from one side of the map to the other constantly. Although I wish I knew that I shouldn't have leveled up using acrobatics so much, because I didn't know the monsters grew with you.
Red Faction: Guerrilla - I played this right after Saints Row 2 and Prototype. Don't see what the hype is when it got such accolades. I had bad AI bugs and physics glitches from the get go.
Class of Heroes - I loved Etrian Odyssey 1 and 2, and was anticipating this one for months. I got to near the end of the game without trouble, and now can't even hit the last golem once. Haven't touched it since.
The World Ends With You - Started it twice, got about an hour in both time. Can't get into it.
Thief - The first one on the PC. I probably played the first level 2-3 times, and it was innovative at the time. I tried to play the second level (moss arrows and walking skeletons) at least 4-5 times, and it's just so frustrating to me that I gave up.
I know some people will think this is blasphemy but I could just not get into GTA4. I felt that for it being the 3rd or 4th best ranked game of all time it needed more... i figured if i just kept playing it would get better but after about 12 hours i kinda just gave up on it...

Sadly GTA4 just gets WORSE the more you play it. After playing Saints Row 2 its very hard to go back to the GTA "rules" in terms of customization and cars and such. And GTA SA was one of my fav games of all time, GTA4 hit and I'm like "how did this get a 10/10 again? it;s not as good as GTA SA how can it be scored better?"
GTA4 has great cutscenes... but when the gameplay became internet surfing and playing darts.. it just sort of fizzled
