This game really rocks. I just finished it and loved it. The best surprise of 2009 for sure!

Which Game Was That Again?

An Amazon review begins: "i got game n kil rat mutate over n over untl bad dude kil me ouch. i like game lot n rats r cool n stuff wen thety mutate n try to kill me daed ouch!"

It continues: "It ok to play n shoot bad dude n i get game n tell u to get game to kil rat an bad dudes in ur guns u kill rat. Ok great good but no ok good great just ok good great good. Get."

This is a user review, of course. A glowing one based on the star rating.

Can you guess the game it's about?

The answer.

I have to say, I'm starting to see why this got dinged the way it did on some of these reviews.     It's a good game, but it definitely has some shortcomings in single player mode.     After a certain point, the missions become extraordinarilly monotonous, you just drive/teleport around a bunch, grab some item and kill a few things, return the item and get some more of the same crap to do.     I've heard it gets more challenging in the 2nd playthrough, but in the 1st you feel entirely overpowered most of the time and breeze through the mission without any challenge whatsoever.     Especially since they give you missions several difficulty levels below where your char is.

It's pretty difficult to die, because if you're getting close to death you can just equip your shotgun, start running up on something, completely mutilate almost anything within the timer, and then get your 2nd wind.    Most missions require little strategy because of this, maybe you snipe away as soon as you see some red dots on the radar to thin the herd, but outside of that you can just run into a group of enemies with reckless abandon and just destroy everything in sight with your shotgun and get very few deaths.      Especially with the soldier class I'm using because you just run into the middle, drop a turret, and start whaling on stuff.

It's definitely fun, but after reaching about level 27-28 it starts to get a bit more of a meh feeling to me when playing single player.   If you're going to center the game around FPS combat, you at least have to make that FPS combat a bit of a challenge.    The story and RPG elements are thin, and yeah it doesn't make itself out to be an RPG really so that's understandable, but it should really excel in the FPS elements if it's going to be that way.   And it just doesn't.    There's no point where you really feel any tension whatsoever in combat.

I totally understand what you mean here.  Since I got to New Haven, it seems like I level up faster than the quests do.  I was around 25 or so when I started New Haven, and the quests were 21-22ish if I remember right.  Now I am 33 and doing quests that are around 27, and haven't had one that was my level for a quite a while.  I think I am almost through the storyline the first time trhough, so hopefully "Nightmare": mode will be more of a challenge.

Question : If I miss Claptraps on the Normal playthrough, will they be there in Nightmare mode to find so I get the trophy?

Maybe they could patch the game again.  New AI modes, upgraded enemies, better trading system, balance the drops more etc...

I'd say go to the gearbox forums and post glitches/balance issues.

Ok, so now that my request for this game has moved up to 5th active, and it's getting close, I'm starting to put some more serious thought into it.  Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has any opinion on the differences between pc and the ps3 version.  From what I've found, the console version actually looks more vivid and colorful.

http://www.eurogamer.net/videos/exclusive-borderlands-ps3-pc-comparison

However, any opinions on performance, framerates, etc?  This seems like a game I'd rather play on my TV, but I can always plug my laptop into the hdmi too, if need be.  I can't earn trophies on pc, but as much as I like them, trophies aren't everything.  Since I'm not a shooter-centric gamer, I tend to do better with a controller than a keyboard, but nothing's stopping me from buying a controller if I go PC for this game.  Finally, like I said, I've moved up in the queue pretty well, so from goozex, the game on ps3 would be a dollar and 1000 points.  If I decide to go PC, it's on sale for under $40 at amazon, and with my promotional credit from Dragon Age would be only $30.

So, anyways, it seems like ps3 has a minor edge, but I don't really care which I end up getting it for, as I'd happily play it on whichever gives the better value/experience.

Loving this game. I have a lvl 49.5 lady and sitting on the fence about the DLC. I know if I go ahead and get to lvl. 50, I'll probably send it off, and never play the DLC. The game doesn't seem to auto-level the enemies, they stay the same level in different areas, so I wonder how the DLC will work? WIll I have the same chance with a lvl. 50 character as I do some of my lvl 15 and 25 characters? Anyone know?
