Forgot they did that, but my point remains the same.

Also, last I heard, PS3 gets it first :p

Also, won't be on 360 in all countries, mostly just the USA and Europe, I think.

My point was that continuing to support PS2 allows Sony to introduce new gamers to its flock at a far lower price point. This encourages more new gamers for their camp. From what I saw last gen, people who were first introduced to the PS2 preferred the PS2 to the xbox. Those that were first introduced to the xbox preferred it over the PS2.

It's simple PS3 needs a price drop.

Probably very accurate in every generation, including this one.

Hopefully if they reintroduce backwards compatibility, it will be via hardware rather than software.

software would be the more intelligent way to go IMO; charge 20-30 bucks for PS2 emulation software? people would pay it

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.

I don't mean for them as a company... I mean for me as a player, I would rather have an actual PS2 chip in that console for BC than a software emulator that really doesn't cut it.

Most popular consoles out sell their replacements for some duration of time.  The NES outsold the SNES for 2 years, the PS1 outsold the PS2 for about 6 months, etc.

I don't understand why ps2 BC was dropped on the ps3. I have a launch 60gb model which has the actual ps2 hardware in it for BC, but then they switched in later models to BC via software emulation.    Then they dropped BC altogether in what they said was an effort to cut costs so they coudlo lower the ps3 cost. But it was software emulation, not hardware, how does gettign rid of software emulation lower the cost?

It was almost as if they were concnerned more about the ps3 cutting into ps2 sales, rather than the opposite issue.

Yes and yes, I think it still had some PS2 hardware to boost the emu.  But it's Sony suits overthinking themselves into a distant 3rd place.  Sony suits think they can manipulate the market and believe that the entire world is similar to Japan in that it lines up to buy hardware just because they are brand loyalist.   Sony suits have learned the hard way

Software emulation is tricky business. Imagine trying to run support for the entire PS2 library...

That's funny though, because I has a PS2 for a longtime and loved it... I went to transfer to the PS3 then noticed the price gap, after that I got a 360 and traded my ps2 for an xbox. Many people do like supporting an individual company but when it comes down to the line I think we'd all  buy whatever we could to keep playing.

Just thought I'd add something to this: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/fabula/

There will be 3 games released for this set, and the Versus game will be PS3 exclusive. Hope this helps clear things up. :)

My prediction is FF13 will be rubbish.  "Stylish Action" is a horrible trend that has crippled JPN game development.  We end up w/ boring nonsense like DMC4, Bayonetta and now FF has gone "stylish action airborne combos w/ emo hair and bennie hats"

It's filthy and sinful
