The 6th Day (2000)

The 6th Day is one of Schwarzenegger's later action movies. Obviously, they've dropped in quality since the 80's and 90's, but this is still an enjoyable movie, which I actually liked better than Conan the Barbarian.

The 6th Day is about cloning. Arnold plays a pilot named Adam, who after a big misunderstanding, gets cloned. The plot is actually not very stupid and a rather interesting look at a technology-filled future. But this is an Arnie action movie. If you really care about the plot, you're doing it wrong.

The action is actually really good, with some exciting scenes. There's also a good bit of humor, with some very good lines ("No, so you can go *** yourself!" and "Doesn't anyone die these days?"). The 6th Day is nothing spectacular but it was worth two hours of my time.

"I might be back."

Final Score: 7/10

Good reviews, and I can't comment on the newest one to review because all I've seen of Blazing Saddles seemed like Mel Brooks was trying to get all the shit out of the way so he could do the funny stuff later. Only two funny bits in the half-hour I watched, which is surprising 'cus it's Mel Brooks y'know

I've seen Blazing Saddles. It's actually one of my least favorite Mel Brooks' movies.

I plan on rewatching it because it's next on the 100 Laughs... list.

Keanu has only done 7 good movies

#1 Bill and Ted (the first one)

#2 Bram Stokers dracula

#3 Point Break

#4 The Gift --- almost no one has seen this

#5 Speed (the first one)

#6 The Replacements

#7 The Matrix (the first one)

skip the rest --- you'll thank me --- especially lake house (that movie was so dumb it made my brain vomit)

Only? 7 movies is kind of a lot.  Think of how many actors are out there with one  1 or 2 (or 0) good movies under their belt.

Unbreakable (2000)

Unbreakable is a very interesting movie.

It's about a regular guy named David, played wonderfully by Bruce Willis, who miraculously survives a train accident. Elijah, a comic-obsessed man with a very bad bone disease played by Samuel L Jackson, hears about this. He becomes convinced that David a superhero and that's the basis of the movie.

A lot of things happen that seem to confirm that David is a superhero, while other things make it seem it isn't. One of the most thrilling scenes is when David tracks down a criminal who had tied up a family in their home. This scene is filled with tension and will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Acting-wise, there are good performances. Willis is phenomenal. Jackson was a disappointment though. He just seemed like he wasn't into it. It didn't help that his character was a weirdo in every sense of the word.

M. Night Shymalan does some great things directing wise. The whole movie is just very clever. For example, you frequently see Elijah in glass reflections. Elijah's nickname was Mr. Glass. One thing I didn't like was the sudden cuts. They were very jarring. Of course there's a big twist. The way it's handled isn't very interesting. It happens and that's it. Oh well.

Unbreakable is a very deep movie and frankly, I'm too tired to say everything I want to say. More later, possibly, but I'm interested to hear what you all thought about it.

Kindergarten Cop (1990)

"Boys have a penis, and girls have a vagina."

Kindergarten Cop is about Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to teach a kindergarten class. If you don't think that means instant hilarity, then you are a dumbass.

"My dad's a gynecologist. He looks at vaginas all day long."

If Arnold never realized that his movies were actually funny, this world would be a very different place. Luckily, he did realize this, resulting in a few Action comedies that are pure gold. Kindergarten Cop is one of them. This movie is hysterical. Arnold is better when he's being funny, as this movie shows. It's filled with awesome lines that only Schwarzenegger could deliver.

"I AM THE PARTY POOPER!"

Obviously, there are many funny situations that take place in this kindergarten class ("Who is your daddy and what does he do?"). There are many very big laughs. There isn't much action at all, but the final scene is quite exciting. A little bit more action would've been nice, but how many shootouts could happen in a kindergarten?

"THERE IS NO BATHROOM!"

Overall, Kindergarten Cop is a silly movie. It's not deep at all. It's not a true masterpiece by any means. You can't really consider it a good movie, but I still loved it. If you just like to enjoy yourself while watching movies, then watch this.

"IT'S NOT A TUMOR!"

Final Score: 9.5/10

Wow, great garage sale. Other than knocked up, I enjoyed all of these movies( Still ticked I lost my Sin City copy.)
As for cloudy with a chance of meatballs, no, I have not seen it nor do I have intentions of seeing it. I think if I were to see a movie in theatres now it would be The Informant.

I really want to see The Informant! too.

The Truman Show (1998)

I'm writing a screenplay. It's kind of a mockumentary type thing. One of the characters is based on my eleven year old sister. In the movie, there's a part where she says her three favorite films. Immediately after watching the Truman Show, she said "I want this to be one of my favorite movies".

The Truman Show is an amazing movie. It's about a guy whose life is a TV show and he doesn't even know it. Everyone, except for him, is an actor. It's actually a pretty scary thing to think about and you start to wonder if reality TV will ever go that far.

Jim Carrey is extremely good in this movie. I really think he should start to play more dramatic roles, rather than making stupid faces and falling on the ground. The other dramatic movie of his that I've seen (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) got a 10.

I love the way the movie shot, as if you are actually watching a reality TV show. We see the movie through hidden cameras and that really adds to it. The Truman Show is a nice mix of comedy and drama. By the end I almost cried, but minutes before I was laughing. I highly recommend this movie.

"Good morning! And if I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night!"

Final Score: 10/10

Possible Next Movies: Sleepers, Supercop, Blazing Saddles

I started watching Dazed and Confused last night. Got about halfway through and I really wasn't liking it. I'll finish watching it with the hope it gets better. Good soundtrack, though.

Dazed and Confused (1993)

Dazed and Confused is a 1970's version of American Graffiti, but's it's lacking something that makes it great.

It suffers from 'Big Chill syndrome', in that it introduces so many characters, that you have a hard time keeping track of all of them. I didn't learn the main characters' names till the end. I didn't find out a few of the characters' names till I looked up the movie on IMDB. It all suffers from 'Fame syndrome', in that it never really gives us the best conclusion of all the events, though it was definitely had a better ending than Fame.

I thought it was a comedy? I didn't laugh very much. There were some smiles and chuckles. I remember one big laugh. But it wasn't really funny.

That's kind of ok, though. Tootsie was a comedy, but I didn't laugh much. But I liked everything else about it. I can't say the same about Dazed and Confused.

It definitely has it's moments. When they are driving down the road, smashing mailboxes, I loved the movie. There were other times - like the beating, the hazing and most of the moments with those nerds - where I just wasn't enjoying it. It's an inconsisent movie, but when it works, it really works.

Also, the soundtrack kicks all kinds of ass.

Final Score: 7.5/10

I wasn't planning on Couldy With a... either, but I've actually heard that it is quite good. No Pixar, but supposedly much better than most Dreamworks.

Informant does look fantastic though.
