I voted for Rock Band mainly due to the amount of DLC that is available for it. However, I prefer the the look of Guitar Hero. They gameplay is too similar to make a choice between the two in that respect.

Rock band!

Guitar Hero isn't fun anymore,

also, they're releasing a game every month from August to November!

I really would have just preferred it if Guitar Hero had stuck to being just a guitar game.

I've always been a fan of GH, but Rock Band has way better/more DLC.  But I do LOVE GH: Metallica.

I voted RB.

Like Zach21 said, I wish GH would have stuck to guitar only.

something about the way the notes "explode" when you hit them in rock band makes it ridiculously addicting.... not to mention the mesmerizing visuals as you play. i just dont get that in the zone, feel like im tripping on something feeling when i play guitar hero.

when i play gh, i feel like im just trying to 100% the song and get through it.

when i play rockband, its a real EXPERIENCE.

i dont know if anyone understands any of this, but if youve played both, you know what im talking about.

Rock Band.

I never liked Guitar Hero, and it was Rock Band that brought me into music games. Even though I bought World Tour (only for Tool), the notes seemed sparatic on Guitar Hero, and the difficulty was hard just for the sake of being hard.

I like both but of note my friends and i only rent the guitar hero games but own the rock band ones.  I didn't like what they did with the bass lines in the new guitar hero WT based games... that open strum is extremely annoying especially the hammer on open strum in between chords

Definitely rock band for me.

The main deciding factor should really be the songs. Rock Band just has more stuff I like than Guitar Hero. But setting that aside, the general look and feel of rock band is a lot less embarrassing, and the people who create the tracks for rock band are less concerned with making the game a challenge and more concerned with making it feel like the actual song. Guitar hero feels more arcade game-y, rock band feels more rock fantasy. I like the latter. Personal preference.

Rock band just has a better feel to it. Granted, I don't know how the notes actually are, but it always feels more fluid in Rock Band. I alos like the look of Rock band 2 more, but I wish both had better character customization.

Rock band also has better DLC and music, plus it actually utilizes all the DLC and tracks from Rock Band 1 if you imported them into the actual game experience. I hate only being able to play Guitar Hero stuff in quick play and not career mode.

Even if Guitar Hero was the superior game, I'd support Harmonix over any other developer out of principle.  Harmonix's mission statement is to expose non-musicians to the greatness of music, whereas Activision/Red Octane/Neversoft are just a pack of losers trying to cash in on a fad until the watermelon hits the pavement.

See Activision's "Guitar Hero: World Tour is the first game to allow gamers the chance to play guitar, bass, drums, and vocals all at the same time" comment.

Fortunately, Rock Band's Tour mode is light years ahead of anything Guitar Hero offers, and their DLC library is fantastic.  I think Red Octane produces better instruments, but this is negated by the fact that their customer service is a joke, so when half of their instruments shipped with some sort of issue, that was a whole mess of customers that didn't receive a response, didn't have their warranties honored, and had to pay for shipping to resolve the whole mess.

I'll add, as many others have, that Guitar Hero: Metallica rocked something fierce.  Disclaimer: I'm a big Metallica fan.
