To date the only Poke-games I've played is Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium, but the premise of collecting things and evolving them to bigger better things appeals to me so I thought I'd give these games a shot.
I've recently purchased a Game Boy Advance for my daughter (and myself ) and picked up a copy of Pokemon Sapphire. I got the game for myself, she isn't able to read yet. My question regarding the Pokemon games is with so many different versions (Emerald, Ruby, LeafGreen etc...) what makes Sapphire different from Emerald and the like? Just different Pokemons to collect or is there actual gameplay differences?
They usually release pokemon games in groups of 3. The'll have a set world, and a set of pokemon, in each group of 3. An example would be Ruby, Sapphire, and later Emerald. Ruby and Sapphire share the same world, the same general storyline, and mostly the same pokemon. In each version there are a few pokemon that are exclusive to that version, as well as a different "legendary", or one of a kind boss pokemon. Emerald is kind of like both games in one, it has the same world, but offers all of the pokemon and legendaries in Ruby/Sapphire I believe.
Other examples would be Silver, Gold, and Crystal for the GBC. Silver and Gold have the same general story, but a few exclusive pokemon and legendaries, while Crystal has all of them I'm pretty sure. The third game in a series, such as Crystal or Emerald, are released after the pervious two.
As for LeafGreen or FireRed, they are remakes of the old Blue and Red GB games.
I probably missed a few things, but someone will fix it for me.
every thing you will ever need to know about any thing pokemon is here http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Games but if u had to get a any of the games i would say yellow if no gameboy then redfire or green i still like the frist pokemon better then the rest but i only played gen 1,2,3 have not try the ds ones yet and dont want do.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every moment of it.
Thanks guys. Good stuff. Figures, if I had known that ahead of time I would have grabbed Emerald, not Sapphire. No biggie though.
The only thing wrong with what Yamato said is that Emerald doesn't have a few of the pokemon in it. It has it's own group of exclusives just like Ruby and Sapphire.
