Have you ever seen a game and though "wow, that looks horrible" but then you finaly play it and it ends up being pretty awesome? I know I have!

My latest example is definitly Resistance: Fall of Man

I always thought it looked stupid. I didn't like the Chimera, I thought they looked horribly designed. I didn't like how the character seemed to float instead of having a bobing motion while walking... It just looked bad so I never tried it.

Then Resistance 2 came out and it was supposed to have this awesome multiplayer, which it totally does, so I tried it and ended up really liking it. But that made me think, "hey, this story isn't so bad.. I wonder if the first one is worth playing for story alone?"

So I picked up Resistance: Fall of Man and started it the other day.  After playing for like 10 minutes I realized that everything I thought about this game was totally wrong. This is one awesome game!

What games have you had this same experience with?

Wanted: Weapons of Fate - I had heard the game was horrible, but I had a lot of fun with it. It is not re-inventing the wheel, but it was suprisingly lacking in frustration for me.

yu gi oh the beginning of destiny on PS2. I figured it would completely suck like all the other yu gi oh games but this one is actually pretty good with the exception of the supercheesy graphics.

Nice quote- I am also a fan of the D Smile

Plenty of times. Wanted and Eat Lead are great examples. The Club too.

I picked up Final Fantasy Fables: Cocobo Tales as the "get one free" after I bought two used games at gamestop.  I thought it looked really childish, but it ended up being, if not engrossing, at least entertaining.

I actually thought Eat Lead looked really good despite its bad reviews, and I want to try Wanted. I played the demo just to see how it was and it was surprisingly fun!

The Club however... I see that one at blockbuster for 10 bucks everytime I go in there, I have no idea what it is or what type of game it is... But i've always been curious. Maybe it will be another Resistance for me!

If you like arcade style games, where high score is the point, you will like it.

I just picked up DS Orcs & Elves from Best Buy for $5 because it was a 50% off manager's special.  I wasn't expecting much from it since it was a port of a mobile game, rather cheap, and the graphics looked dated.  However, I'm playing it now and really enjoying it.  The graphics are old school but that's because it's kinda reminiscent of those old first-person tactical RPG dungeon crawlers (don't know if there is a "formal" name for it).  It's by id so it plays like a fantasy RPG version of Doom.

I really like the writing and story and it has a nostalgic feel to it.  I've read it's kinda short, but I'm glad I decided to pick it up.  Impulse buying FTW!

Recently, I've been surprised by the Darkness and Army of Two.  Both were games that I had really low expectations for.

Battlefield: Bad Company and Killzone 2

Why,the demos were terrible on psn,it just goes to show you that demos cant be compared to the real games.

I've thought of another one - The Godfather II.

this is the one that i was going to post as well; story was more interesting than i thought it would be and there was a surprising amount of depth to the gameplay

also, ghostbusters on the wii; i really expected nothing at all out of the title but have been having a blast playing it

Pizza guys are getting worse and worse looking. I guess all the good ones went into porn.
