 You mean like motion controls on the Wii, the 360 or the PS3?

ADDENDUM:  Competition breeds innovation, outright thievery and everything in between.

Although i'm not excited that every console is getting motion controls we may see better (or different) use of those controls than we've seen on the Wii...or it may result in every waggle compilation being ported to every console and an embarrasing footnote in gaming history.

This is something that many think in the gaming industry: one console for all. Development costs for games are going off the top which forces many studios/publishers to shut down if their game fails. Having 1 version of the game instead of a version for the Wii, 360, PS3 (not counting PS2 because games are still being released for the console) would shave a lot on cost.

There is also the fact that whatever next console is released, people might not be so interested in picking it up. This is why the big 3 are holding back to release anything new (well perhaps Nintendo with an HD version of the Wii) and instead upgrading what they have (Project Natal anyone). Sony is aware of this which is why they often mentioned that the PS3 would have at least a 10 year life span. The market is simply saturated. We are bombarded by new releases, accessories and gaming updates every week.

Will one console happen? No way! Since the original NES there as been major competition. NES vs SEGA - - SNES vs Genesis vs Turbographix 16 - - N64 vs PS1 vs Saturn - - Gamecube vs Xbox vs PS2 vs Dreamcast - - Wii vs 360 vs PS3 - - - and that is not counting systems that came out and died almost upon release such as the Jaguar or the Neo Geo). Competition is good but I do agree that there is a need to have a constance upon releases.

IMO exclusivities should be gone with. Everything should be intra system. Hence Gears of War on PS3 and God of War on the 360. So what brings one to your console and not another. The experience: quality of the controllers, whats in the box (ie: WiFi included or not), online experience, hardware itself, etc.

The government (At least in the US) wouldn't allow a merger like this to ever exist because of the monopoly it would create... besides, why would you want to eliminate competition? That's one of the only reasons we get price cuts.

I want to see Apple move into the console department. I feel like that's coming, because of the app store on the iPod. That would be awesome.

I certainly hope not since I have spent like over a thousand bucks for seperate systems and games. and then them sell 1 console to rule them all....NO!

Never ever. We need compitition. If it was just one console they would milk you for everything they have. they would never drop price of console and we cant do anything about that because thats all we have
