yeah, the Wii is not my only console...but it IS the only one that broke.

...which is just plum odd since you do own a 360, iirc.  I'm on my fourth or maybe it's fifth 360.  My 2nd Wii though, which was odd as well.  My first Nintendo malfunction since never.

Aren't we (the Goozex community) all hardcore gamers? How many of you here who own a Wii, just own a Wii? I'll bet you own other consoles too. The Wii target audience (children and soccer moms) will probably never be a majority on this site.

As far as reliability is concerned, it was never one of my reasons why the XBOX360 is the best console on the market today. Besides, now that MS has extended the warranty to 3 years, that only add to my point. What other console maker is offering such an amazing warranty?

Considering the popularity of many Wii games on this site, I believe that there are more casual gamers on this site—of whom I am now one—for whom the Wii is the only next-gen console than you might think. It is my only next-gen, and will likely always be my only console from this generation.

However, before the original Xbox and the 360, I'd never heard of the need for warranty coverage for a video game console. Heck, my original NES is 20+ years old and still crankin'. In fact, I've had every Nintendo console from NES to Wii, and they've all been rock-solid with minimal hangs and very good performance.

I would concede that the N64 was probably the black sheep of the family tree, though ...

Blackcoyote:

This is interesting.  I've read a lot about the Wii running out of gas once people get bored with Wii Sports and other fun social games.  There is of course a ton of debate about the less-than-par graphics on the Wii.  But then I hear Rictor, whom I consider to be ruler of all hardcore gamers.  You also can't argue with the sales figures.  To me that is the power of the Wii -- you just can't figure it out.

I think the power of the Wii is that it appeals to much more than hardcore gamers.  It appeals to casual gamers and especially non-gamers.  I've got my entire family hooked on the system, even my older relatives who have never touched a game in their lives.

My brother-in-law went out and bought his family a Wii after playing mine at our Christmas party, and a lot of other non-gamers in attendance wanted to get systems as well, they just haven't been able to yet because they're so hard to find in stores.  The truth is though, that non-gamers do get bored playing just Wii Sports after a while, and they don't really know what other games to get after that one.

I think that the party games are great for families and non-gamers but there's really not much else on the Wii yet to suggest to people other than Mario Party 8, Rayman (although it's kind of kiddy/easy), and Wii Play.  My brother-in-law only owns Wii Play and Wii Sports so far, although I could see him getting the sport games as decent ones are released (I thought Tiger Woods was okay...but the controls still need a little work).  I'm hoping that some one releaes a great baseball game for the Wii, as The Bigs didn't get that great of reviews...and I think the Wii is definitely overdue for a bunch of great shooting games.  Heck, they're releasing shooting games like Point Blank and Touch the Dead left and right on the DS...where are our Wii shooting games?  This system is the most accurate home system ever when it comes to shooting games....I meant the cursor is right there on the screen wherever you point your gun...it's like having an infared sight.  The Duck Hunt-like shooting game in Wii Play is pretty popular at my house with my non-gamer gun nut relatives.  I think a game like Big Buck Hunter that used the Wiimote as a light gun would do huge numbers on the Wii.

The Wii is a new system, but the games are coming, give them time.  With the number of consoles already sold and the numbers that will be sold in the next year, there's enough of an install base to attract every major studio in the world to develop games for the system.  I don't know if the PS3 is going to have the same kind of luck, as there aren't many games out for that system and I'm not sure if their sales and PR is attracting a lot of developers right now.

In the long run, although I'm a Nintendo fan, I'm also a Sony and Microsoft fan, and I want to see all the systems become successful and sell well.  Each company brings their own innovations and unique products to the market, and that's the reason I give a little bit of my money to each of them on a regular basis.

Of course, Sega went out of business as a console maker and they're still a strong force in providing great software to the other companies, so I guess if one of the current big 3 ever went out, they could always pull a Sega and simply put out software instead of software and hardware.

I haven't played it recently, but then again aside from some halo 3 odst, I've still been on MMO's. The only exception is I still need to beat persona 3. ^ ^

So seeing in how the Wii really touched out to casual gamers will Natal and another 360 price drop (seeing is Natal will be around $200 if we are lucky, just guessing here from MS add-on additions in the past) pick up a lot of steam also? MS is now taking a gamble with possibly making the next best thing since Wii in terms of advancement in gaming.

I had the 360 and the Wii.  Now I only have the Wii.  Did I get rid of the 360 because it was an inferior console?  No way, because its not.  The reason why I got rid of it, is that I dont have time to play that much, having 2 young kids at home.  The Wii is something that my 4 year old can hop on and play (to an extent), the 1 year old can sit and laugh his butt of while watching us play De Blob,  and when the kids are done Daddy can hop on and blow zome zombie head off.....

I am probably as casual of a gamer as they come, and the Wii is perfect for me.  Is it good for everyone? No. Will I try to say it is better then the other systems out there? No.  It is what it is, and its as fun as you make it.  If you look at it in a negative light, then its not going to be any good for you...

I think the statement made before about the Wii being a compliment to the PS3/360 sums it up perfectly.  I got the Wii in the summer of 2007, and aside from a couple attemps at single-player gaming (Zelda, RE:4), it has basically only been used for group games, and it really shines there.  I don't know what it is, but I haven't really been drawn into a single player experience on the Wii like I have with some PS3 titles.  I don't know if its the motion control that becomes prohibitive after a while, or it's something else, but the PS3 just seems to lend itself better to those times I want to zone out with some GTA or Burnout or something.

Also, with regards to light-gun, "Dunk Hunt" type games, give Ghost Squad a look.  Its 250 points on here, and I think it is a blast.  It has probably gotten the most play time on our Wii after Wii Sports, and maybe the Bigs.  Speaking of the Bigs, the way you pitch for the Wii makes it an awesome game IMO; I can't think of a baseball game I have had that much fun with.

Lurknomore:

What's weird is that my Wii sits in my play room being unplayed...what are people playing on their in demand Wiis?  I should probably sell mine and buy it agan later on when the games that I want to play come out.

Wii Sports Resort is the most addictive and FUN game I have played in a long time.  It has made me rethink gaming as an individual activity.  You can hang out with friends drink and play FUN+++++

In conclusion Wii Sports Resort is the Shiznit.
And I am going to get a Wii pretty soon<---reference to other thread.
