I received Black (original Xbox game, Platinum Hits version) today and tried it on the 360: it downloaded an update from Xbox Live, and after it had done that I played for about 15 minutes. The game seemed fine.

Since then I've tried it a couple of times, and at random intervals one of the game's sound clips starts playing over and over in a loop. The game still keeps playing, but your onscreen weapon no longer appears. Eventually the game becomes unresponsive to controller inputs and I have to exit out via the controller's Start button.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? This is the first Xbox game I've tried on the 360, and I was wondering if bugginess like this is common with backwards-compatible games.

All the original games i have tried have worked so far.  It could just be a defective game?  Whenever i play either Fallout 3 or Oblivion for more than 30 minutes my Xbox 360 starts making a clicking sound and says disc is unreadable.  No matter how many times i clean them or buff the discs this always happens.

It's actually pretty common, many of the games suffer from minor to medium grade bugs. While several games on the list are borderline unplayable.  When deciding to play an original xbox game, ignore the official list as it does not list the problems. Use this list

If you have a hard drive you should install it to your hard drive.

As for the game not working it is probably a faulty disc.  Black is on the list of confirmed compatible games found here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

"Game tends to lose screen brightness at the start after black screen with white text writing that comes after the full motion video."

I noticed that too. I kept jacking up the brightness in the game and on the TV but it didn't do anything. Then I restarted the map and it was fine.

Funny thing is, form my understanding, the version of the games you download off of the MArketplace from the "originals" section weren't changed at all. They have the same compat problems as the disc versions.

Wow, I didn't know wikipedia had this up.  I will be consulting this if i decide to get original xbox games, thanks!

I never really played my xbox games much on my 360 anyway though.  It's kinda sad that Microsoft didn't make a way so you could easily transfer your xbox game saves over via memory card or something.  I have so many hours clocked in on Elder Scrolls Morriwind GOTY that I sure as hell wouldn't want to start over from scratch. =(

Red Dead Revolver is the only Xbox Original I've played on 360 for long periods of time and it played just fine.

I just play them all in the regular Xbox now to reduce wear of the 360 though and plus the wife still plays the DDR Ultramix's on it.

Confirmed 360 BC means the game can load up and play, and be saved.  Sadly that does not mean it is glitch free, a very large number of OGX games on the 360 have annoying bugs/glitches/flaws

This has never happened to me with either game but there is a quest in the old version of Oblivion that is known to completely stall the game to a freeze after you do the Clavicus Vile mission (the one with the umbra sword) that was fixed on later released versions like the goty edition.
