The flick was decent for a summer movie, and considering the overal poor quality of movies these days...but as a Star Trek movie it failed, but by a Star Trek movie within the ST movie canon, it was pretty good as most of the ST movies outside of Wrath of Khan were pretty bad. A devout Star Trek tv series and Gene Roddenberry fan will be dissappointed that this takes such an action movie route and most of the "philosophy" behind the series has disappeared...but anyone looking for good ol' sci-fi that is levels beyond Episodes 1-3, then here you have it.
I have mixed feelings about the movie. Yes, I thought that re-imagining was clever and necessary...but I also "groaned" when I could anticipate the cliche'd Star Trek quotes/lines. There was also a good 10 minute segment right square in the middle of the movie that just about killed the entire movie. They are all gathered discussing options, and it really falls flat. It felt like I was watching Three's Company or some other equally bad sitcom.
