This was a terrible idea last time it was attempted. Why is it not a terriible idea this time? I'm not convinced.

Because this time we have more notice.Confused

Hey blackcoyote!

Where's our reassurance that this change to 1200 points will only affect bundle/collector's/limited edition games and not every new release from the time this increase is instated and on forever from there?!?  And what about new release games with high demand that come out after May 21?  Will these start out at a ridiculous 1200 points for a USED game?

I'm sure a simple reassurance would settle down many of the fires on this thread and all it takes is a little response from you or even from "the algorithm".....even if it's total bull**** (preferably not)!

All you said was "Not all games will rise in points price -- only those that the algorithm determines to need a change in prices (we expect only a small percentage to actually change)"

What is this mystical "algorithm" and where is our reassurance that it will work?  Of course it won't work flawlessly, but can  we at least have the assurance that you will fix it in the isolated cases when we raise hell about them?

*sniff sniff* I want my blanket!  lol JK  Wink All we're asking is a little bit of security in our investments on this site.  Thanks!

If it were only bundles/limited/collector's editions, then I would have no problem with this. But from what I see, that's not the case. A little reassurance would be nice.

Look at it this way, GameStop Sells all used games that cost 59.99 for 54.99 so even if they moved the price on Goozex from 1000 points up to 1100 points it would still be fair in my opinion.

Well, this sucks cause I'm sitting on points right now, but I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter.  The excuse given is bullcrap though, the current point scale gives us a "fair market value" for new releases.  You can trade it in for a handful of older games, or for a similarly new release.  So it's already "fair market value" for us, this change is so that it will be the same for Goozex.  Gamestop sells their new used games for $55, and Goozex wants in on that action.  Which is fine, and they're spinning it nicely, but they could have accomplished the same thing by just adjusting the current algorithm on the current point scale.

From everything they have been saying I will be suprised as hell if very many of the newer games make it up to 1100 pts.  From the sounds of it they have already tested everything with the new points cap and not very many games increased to the 1200pts.

$49.99 at GameCrazy, or $44.99 with the MVP card.

Wild horses couldn't drag me away.

Here is the fallacy of the evil Gamestop argument. Yes they sell some used games for $54.99 (from working there, maybe 25% of all customers have Edge Cards, so I am not even broaching that topic. Most people do not comprehend the concept of spending a little now to save a lot later). Note that it is usually just the newest releases and hottest titles that sit at $54.99.

Example: Left 4 Dead, a game that trades very slowly on Goozex was $44.99 used at GS for weeks.

Spending $5 less for a new release is not that big of a deal, but that is not considered the main evil of Gamestop. The main evil and the biggest reason many came to Goozex was the blatant ripoff that is trade-in values. To take that same Left 4 Dead example : Gamestop gives you no more than $25 to $30 for that game to trade in.

Goozex gives you 1000 pts for trading this game in (or out, to be exact). Since many equate money to points, those 1000 pts would equal $50. A much better trade-in value. So the uproar of possibly paying attention to GS used prices is quite silly.

So even if (this is a hypothetical, I doubt Left 4 Dead would go there) Left 4 Dead would end up costing you 1200 points to purchase, it is still a better deal than Gamestop or other trading options, because you already made so much on your trade-in.

Another real-life example from a recent GS trade-in transaction I cashiered Friday:

Games traded in and value at GS  plus current Goozex point totals (note that this is with the Edge Card)

Game                                               GS Value               Goozex points value ($)       Difference

Dark Sector (360)                             $3.50                         200 ($10)                            + $6.50
Hot Wheels: Beat That (360)          $9.80                         400 ($20)                            +$10.20
Chronicles of Riddick (360)            $30.80                      1000 ($50)                          +$19.20
Lord of the Rings Conquest (360) $15.40                       750 ($37.50)                     +$22.10
Blacksite: Area 51 (360)                  $ 8.40                         400 ($20)                           +$11.60
Eternal Sonata (360)                        $ 12.60                      400 ($20)                           +$7.40
Leisure Suit Larry (360)                   $ 9.80                         650 ($32.50)                     +$22.70
FIFA 09 (360)                                     $ 23.80                       900 ($45)                          +$21.20
Mirrors Edge (360)                           $ 14.00                       850 ($42.50)                     +$28.50
Alone in the Dark (360)                     $ 4.20                        450 ($22.50)                    +$18.30

Totals                                               $132.30                        6000 ($300)                    +$167.70

Just for that transaction, the seller could have received nearly $168 more in trade-in. Note that I recognize that some of these games trade-in for too much on Goozex, but if I were to add the used GS prices of the above games, you would see nearly all of them are within $5. A small price to pay for such excellent trade-in values, as the consumer is still ahead of the game.

Dark Sector $7.99
Hot Wheels $19.99 or $17.99 (YMMV)
Riddick $54.99
LotR:Conquest $34.99
Blacksite $17.99
Eternal Sonata $24.99
Leisure Suit Larry $17.99
FIFA 09 $44.99
Mirrors Edge $24.99
Alone in the Dark $14.99

So let us just wait and see how this whole deal plays out before asking for ridiculous assurances, because I've looked outside and shockingly  the sky has yet to fall.

The examples really are beautiful, and they show very well how much money can be saved on Goozex over GameStop. But these "ridiculous assurances" folks are asking for really don't have much to do with the Goozex v. GameStop value; they have to do with the value of a Goozex point relative to itself.

It seems like a lot of traders on here, myself included, are fine with the idea of a price cap increase for heavy/expensive bundles and rare games, but not for new releases.  Coyote implied that most new releases shouldn't be jumping up to 1200 points, unless the algorithm says it should.  And right now, that algorithm is keeping lots of "new" releases at 1000 points for a very long time (the .07% of games on Goozex (the games that many many many people want)). So the fear is that those high demand new releases are going to shoot up to 1200, thus making the whole idea of giving more value to bundles much more watered down.

But these guys shouldn't be asked to shush just because it's still the best game in town. If I can buy gas at 3 places for $2.00 a gallon and another place at $1.50 a gallon, and then one day that 4th station starts charging $1.65 a gallon, sure, it's still by far the best deal and I'm still going to go there, but it doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

Meh, we're Sam Club shoppers.

Gas for us is a Giant Eagle card plus GetGo Gas. This equals gas that is usually about $1.20-$1.60 a gallon.

To stretch your metaphor: You wouldn't be happy about it, but it is assanine to ask for assurances from the gas station owner to change the prices back. And I have stated, save all the vitriol until after it happens. Until it actually happens, until we see how the new cap increase works in realtime, all of these threats accomplish is post count padding. Smile
