Hi. I've recently been matched for a trade for a rare game I've been looking for for years. It's arrived today (which is pretty quick considering I only got shipping confirmation yesterday), but sadly enough, it's got sticker residue on the disc, and the disc is significantly scratched, to the point where it gave my PS2 repeated disc errors.

However, that's the odd thing: I get disc read errors exactly half the time (tried it 4 times, worked twice), but the other times it works perfectly. Thus, my question is this: does Goozex define a game that has occasional or at least inconstant problems as unplayable?

I've contacted the seller about the issue. I'm waiting to see if there will be a reply.

Honestly, if there was an option to reduce the price to cover the costs I would pay to get it resurfaced, that would be the ideal solution. I want to keep the game if I can get it resurfaced and clean off the residue; I just wish it worked perfectly. Also, there's around a chance in a blue moon that I'll be able to get it again. But as that's not how Goozex works, I just want to clarify the rules before taking any steps forward, and I'd welcome any suggestions that would avoid a negative that would have me send the game back. Thank you in advance to those who will reply.

Unplayable is...well, unplayable.  Unable to play the game in the manner originally intended.  Best I can suggest is to test the game further.  If after lightly cleaning the disc you are still encountering disc read errors in a fairly regular fashion - then I would consider the disc unplayable.

Resurfacing is not suggestible at all; it's fine for your own games and typically will bring the disc back from the brink of death.  But if you're trying to determine what feedback to give the trade and then go have the disc resurfaced and it happens to make things worse, you'd likely still be accountable for the trade.  If the game needed to be sent to Goozex as part of a dispute, they'd have no way to tell what the condition of the disc originally was.  Avoid resurfacing...

If you continue to test the game out and the read errors are still bad enough that you feel the disc isn't working properly, you can also discuss canceling the trade with the seller.  Should you come to this conclusion with the seller, make sure they initiate the trade cancel from their end first, so you can be placed back in your original position in the queue.

I recieved an unplayable disk just recently.

After much ado, I initiated a cancel trade as the buyer and after the seller confirmed, I was put back in line with no problem.

So maybe that means it doesn't matter who initiates the trade

Thanks to both of you for the reply.

After testing the game further, I noticed it is working more around 80% of the time and my best guess is that it probably just needs the sticker residue cleaned out. I know a place that will do that, and after discussions with the seller, I agreed to leave a +5 positive with mention of the disc's state.

However, now I'm in a situation where another rare game I got's not working at all. This one isn't even working half the time, it simply doesn't work (which is too bad). This one is heading towards cancellation, as I spoke to the seller; apparently it still works on his consoles. We'll see how it goes. But yeah, thanks for the advice, especially regarding resurfacing.
