First off I like Nicholas Cage as an actor, and for the most part I was impressed with his performance as an actor in this movie. I agree though that the ending was horrible, and it truly ruined the movie for me. Honestly, for the first 90 minutes of the movie I was completely engaged. Now yes it was a bit odd to have those aliens popping up every now and then, but I always assumed that they had something to do with the ending. Looking back, if they would have taken out the aliens throughout the movie, and done something different with the ending, they would have had a great movie on their hands.
The only cage movies I liked were the National Treasure movies which actually weren't too bad, and 9mm I think it was called. That was a great flick. But I had no interest in seeing this film.
It always sucks when they use deus ex machina for a story, especially during the turning point or the denuemont. The same thing pissed me off about I Am Legend with the uber-christian ending which came out of nowhere and slapped me in the face.
The movie could have been so good if it weren't for the last fifteen minutes.

chris100185: This isn't a bad movie because Cage is in it, this is just a bad movie that he happens to be in.

That happens a lot with the roles he accepts.
All of this Nicholas Cage talk is making me want to break out my copy of Face/Off. I still know if I actually like this movie... or if it supposed to be as funny as I think that it is?

It's sad that Cage will act in ANY movie for a paycheck.
He's the perfect actor if you want to make a bad movie but still attract the masses.

You can replace Cage's name above with Pacino's and/or Deniro's. Then you pop in Heat or anything pre-Heat, and wonder where it all went wrong. I blame Scent of a Woman for Pacino's fall.
Don't forget Christopher Walken whose movie roles range from Pulp Fiction to Balls of Fury. I think the guy hass actually stated that he would never turn down an offer for a role in something.
Walken is awesome though. Big difference.
Yes, he's stated that he loves acting to the point that he does not care what role he plays, he just wants to be acting, and accepts anything offered to him, as long as they're willing to wait for him to finish the 30+ projects he's committed to before them.
I thought Nicholas Cage was actually bearable to watch in this movie. I dunno what it is, but normally there's something about him that just pisses me off. Ghost Rider was decent (barely), and National Treasure just sucks as far as I'm concerned.
But yeah, on the topic of Knowing, I thought it was quite good at first. Those disaster scenes were brutal, and the "whisper people" were pretty creepy. And then we found out they were benevolent aliens and the movie instantly shot itself in the foot. Completely disappointing.
