Suggestion: Give all users who trade a recently released game, possibly during the first 4-6 weeks after release, a free trade credit or an extra 50pts.

We use to do something like this when I worked at Hollywood Video. We offered a discount on the next movie that someone would rent if they brought back their new release movie before the date it was due (maybe next day).

It's purpose, in both my example and hopefully as well in my suggestion, is to help elimate some stagnation that you have at release and it gets the trading ball rolling quicker.

Shouldn't this wonderful community be enough incentive?

I'd feel rushed to finish the game if that was how it was. No thank you.

Here's the problem though.  When you have a ton of points, why trade a new release?  You don't need more points.  I find myself trading attempting to trade new releases elsewhere until it looks like the point value might drop on Goozex.

Key word there is "attempting."  I hear where you're coming from loud and clear. But it's tough to get real value from direct trading communities because everyone wants to lowball.

We have been tossing around a few ideas on this same topic: an incentive to trade in a new release during the first 4 or 6 weeks. Granted, many people may still want to play the game longer... but would some prefer to trade it in faster if there was an incentive?

A few ideas:

A: + 2 bonus trade credits during first 3 weeks, +1 bonus trade credit during next 3 weeks. The trade credit would be given by Goozex

B: + 100 points during first 3 weeks, +50 points during next 3 weeks: the points would be paid by the buyer, basically rising the point value of the game during the first 6 weeks to 1100 or 1050.

I prefer B to A.

Not that there is anything wrong with A.  I figure most users would pick rather have credits.  Do you think the increased trading would offset for a slight hit in a revenue stream?

I think this system would work well for offering bonus points:

New games with an MSRP of $60 start above the points cap at 1200 points. Every 2 weeks, they drop by 50 points until they reach the permanent cap of 1000 points.

Thoughts? This raises the points cap for new releases on a temporary basis while not adding much complexity to the system.

Funny you mention this Big Smile

I was about to post that you said this in the chatroom.

I like it.

and I'd prefer A over B.

But I'm not sure either would serve as a huge incentive to trade in a new release.

I agree with shadoz19; most people don't want to trade in a new release because they want another new release in return. These incentives don't necessarily address that problem.

If either of these speed up the trading of the new release titles then this would address the problem.  Lets say RE5 was only going to be traded 30 times in the first 6 weeks but with this new incentive it gets traded 50 times.  This would make it so that you get a new release almost twice as fast depending on how many more people trade out their new release early to get extra points for it.

Any proposal that causes more game trading will affect how fast these new releases will move.  But I for one dont really care for incentives as I get new releases relatively early and with proposal B it would cost me an extra 100pts for these new releases and I wouldnt trade them back in for a couple of months so I wouldnt recover any of those extra points.

I think option A would be much better than B.  But perhaps option A. should be +4 for the first 3 weeks, then +2 for the following 3.

knowing that the price would drop in X amount of weeks...would that slow down trading?

or are there enough people out there who are willing to dish out the extra 100-200 points fully knowing theres no way they can sell it back at the same amount?

That would be more of a price change suggestion. I think what is being proposed here is that the goozex system would provide the points without charging the new buyer extra scratch.
