I agree with cheez' post above - the points cap system seems to work for all but a handful of 1-off games (older, more rare titles or newer collector's edition titles). I'd much rather see the 1000 point cap stay in place and see changes come by way of an adjustment to the algorithm and/or manual adjustments to certain games where the points value is significantly off from the retail cost.
Overall this has been a great experience for me trading here the last 5 months. I would believe that eliminating the points cap would have potential to create more problems than it would fix.

Hrm... I can just see it now, a disc only Suikoden II, beat to hell... but still playable... shows up at my door for 2500 points. Neutral feedback would not even begin to quell my rage on that. No thanks.
The one exception I could *maybe* see is for games with mailable accessories like Time Crisis, Mario Kart, etc. to offset shipping. But... well, no. The points system is fine the way it is.
I have no idea why they'd remove the price cap.
Why would ANYONE get a used copy of a game through the mail for $60 when you can go to the store and get a new copy for $60? Isn't that why they cap out at 1k points anyway?
I can only think of a few rare games that removing the cap would make sense with, like Marvel Vs Capcom 2...
namtrahj:I believe the reason Goozex point changes generally happen in 50-point increments is to protect against this type of wild see-sawing, even with a point cap. In your example (without a cap) the price would slowly rise until some sellers would decide to let the game go--either because they were done with it or because the current point value was worth more to them than the game itself--and some buyers would jump ship because the price was getting too high. Equilibrium would be found, as long as the market was not allowed to fluctuate wildly. It would have to be a pretty special that saw its price just continue to rise with hundreds of willing buyers and no sellers, but even in that case the presence of the buyers itself confirms that the current price point is reasonable, no matter how high. I don't think any pair of shoes is worth $10,000, for instance, but there are rich idiots willing to pay that much. That doesn't mean the shoes are or aren't "worth" that much, only that there is a market for expensive shoes and that I'll never own a pair.
Black Fox Zulu: If it ain't broke..... One point you bring up is people complaining about "well I just traded it out for 1000 and now its 1250!" You compare this to someone trading out a 900 pt. game and then it jumping to 1000 and complaining. You can't compare the two. As of today, I KNOW the max value I can get for a game is 1000 points. If I trade Fallout3 out TODAY for the full 1000, and then it jumps to 1250 tomorrow, of course I will be pissed. You just took away the value of your system. I do however KNOW that if I trade out Fallout3 at 900 pts, that its possible that it will go back up to 1000. That is a non-issue for me (other then being annoyed at myself for not holding on to it for another couple of days) because I KNEW this could happen. I would NOT know if they suddenly changed the cap. I would vehemently and imo well justifiably complain. Edit: Imagine that you took a $20 bill to the bank and exchanged for 4 $5 bills. The next day, you learn that there has been a shortage on $20 bills and they are now worth $22. Eh, not too bad right? You only lost $2. No imagine for some of our higher volume traders (who by the way pump ALOT into supply) have lets say traded 150 $20 bills for $5 bills. $300 dollar difference. In your mind, a $20 bill could never go up in value, but what if did?

that will shut him up
I wouldn't say remove it altogether, but I do think that the cap for Limited Edition, Special Edition, or Collector's Edition games should be higher than the standard. As an example, currently Street Fighter 4 is 1000 points for either edition, which is hardly fair as the LE version comes with lots of bonuses and bells and whistles, and cost a lot more for people to get on release.
Limited Edition, et. al. games need to have their own special rules where the complete package needs to be sent (otherwise, why not just get the regular one?) and their cap is, say something closer to 1500 points. $75 is reasonable, particular for the higher rarity packages with lots of extras, like the MGS4 LE or the GTA 4 SE. At the moment, it's really not worth anyone's time to trade their special editions away when they get severely diminished returns.
I would love it if the metal gear solid le was worth 1500 points as it was on sale recently for $45. Anyways I am in favour of keeping the points cap unless it is a game with a peripheral such as the rock bands and guitar hero games or wii fits and so on.
I really don't care how the price of a game reaches it's equilibrium. 50 point increments is fine with me, I don't see the difference as long as the price is allowed to meet the demand. Obviously it would get there faster in 100 point steps for large discrepancies, but the goal is the same no matter what road you take to get there.
I'm watching Bioshock for the PS3 right now whose price has risen from 900 to 1000 points and the demand has not waivered for a month. Even though it's only $30 retail, It's still undervalued in Goozex points. The only conection between cash and points is in your minds - and it should stay there.

Didn't take long for it to go, didn't it? I'll never get rid of my 360 copy.

It'd be even more popular if people could actually move up in the queue and GET it, too.

Edit: I'll never get rid of it b/c I do not want to. That game is a keeper for me.
I'll never forget the opening sequence of the plane crash, and being in the water and thinking that a cut scene was still going on. My first Videogasm with the 360.

Seeing Rapture for the first time did the same thing to me.
