So, after waiting for a good bit of time to send out Madden 09 for PS2, I finally received a match early this morning.  Later, I received a PM from the user, stating that he meant to request the PS3 version of the game.

I'm not inclined to send him a version of the game that he doesn't really want.  At the same time, I want to make sure that I come out of this situation either still at the front of the trading queue, or as close to it as possible.  In order to do so, who needs to initiate the canceling of the trade?  To reiterate, I don't want to send the guy a game he doesn't want, but neither do I want to be shuffled back as a result of someone else's mistake.

Have him request to cancel the trade if he hasn't done so already. Then accept the cancellation and you should be in the same place as before.

Have him request the cancellation, and your game will be placed back in its original position, but "on hold"

You can activate it right away.

Can I assume that I'll then have the ability to move it from "On Hold" to "active" myself, or will I have to wait for any reason?

Do I have to accept the trade before he can offer to cancel?

If the trade is going to time out soon (under 12hrs) I would just let it time out and then take it off of hold once it has timed out.  Another option would be to decline the trade by choosing the put it on hold for 3 days option.  The final option would be to accept the trade, wait for the buyer to request a cancel then accept the cancel.  I would choose the first option if I were in your situation as you have no idea how long it will take the other user to request the cancel.
