Maskim:It's an awesome thing for them to do. I just wish it had been implemented better. I mean, what was it, only the first 50 people? Top that off that it was announced, and started immediately, when many weren't able to even know, let alone take advantage of it.
I guess you'd call it a 'test run' ... and I would say it succeeded!

I think thats the key word here, Those games were GONE within what 15 minutes?
I decided to pass on this offer but it will be good for the community. Just think about those extra copies of new release games being available for trade.
As far as the promotion being a charity act from goozex I disagree. It is a calculated business decision to drive traffic to their site, increase trading activity esp for new releases, address members concerns (founded or not) about point inflation etc. The points (except for the 100 point signup bonuses) were all purchased at some point so Goozex has received some compensation for the points at some point. Also more trades mean more people will buy trade credits and in turn be more likely to return the game back into the system which will generate more income from people buying trade credits. And again more trades means more happy users and more trades and it can snowball to generate more income.
While I understand that in reality the Goozex points have no monetary value I still assign a value of $.05 a point when determining when to buy a game versus trading it on goozex or receiving it on goozex. For instance I would have to trade an equivalent of $80 worth of games to receive enough points to take advantage of this deal. I can get a new copy of one of the games offered for $36 cash. Looking back at my last few trades in order to generate enough points to take advantage of the deal I received 2050 points for 5 games which cost me $41 out of pocket plus shipping costs of $11 or $.025 a point. This puts the cost of the game at about $46 for me so I would be better off not using points (The shipping of 5 titles titled the scale...without shipping costs it would be a break even deal to use my points) This is important to me since I tend to keep all my used games so the lower my cost the better. For those that trade their games in at a store if they don't trade them on goozex then this deal was no brainer.

Though I do agree with you on the fact this will be great for the community. I've spent 25,250 Goozex points, no money (with the exception of purchasing trade credits) was ever given to Goozex. Most of these 25,250 Goozex Points were generated by mailing games to other users, so I got from promotions or winning a MVP event. So to say they are making $20 profit (1600 - 1000 GP or $80-$60) is incorrect.

Honestly, if they do this again they should not announce it before hand. I like the unpredictability of it like it could pop up at any time.
And possibly have two different options for payment, for example you can pay with 1300 points and 1 trade credit or the standard 1600.
mafafu: it is also going to help spur more trades, on the front and back end. (insert dirty joke here)

That being said though, I do like the thought of people sending out good games at the last minute without thinking becuase their minds are on getting that new release game! But I think the way I suggested above would be more beneficial overall.

1600 is a bit steep, don't you think?
xxt2goodxx:i'm so signing up to twitter so i will be one of the first to be informed!!
This is an excellent idea since I tend to muse a lot on Twitter. Some find it enjoyable...others think it is useless blabber. For sure, Twitter followers had a good idea something was coming, and when the newsletter was being sent out, I linked to it on the website for immediate response.
I also like to talk back to members...so don't be shy and say hello to me on Twitter.

Well like I said, it's just an example. My whole point is either pay a higher point value, or pay a trade credit and slightly lower point value.
That way if a user doesn't have 1600 points but has between 1300 and 1500 points, they could give up a trade credit for it to get the game for a cheaper point value. That way it will get them to use and/or buy more credits faster which would mean more money going to Goozex. Which in turn could mean they would be more likely to do this more often.

I seriously doubt this is as random as you think it is. More likely the newsletter is sent out by a bot doing it in alphabetical order ethier by email address user name or last name. This pretty much insures that the lower half of the alphabet of whichever way they organize their mailings never gets a chance at buying them.
If/when they do this again it definately needs to be announced ahead of time so everone actually has a shot at getting it. Having a mad rush of people to the offer is far more random than bot generated mailings.

prior to the mailing; i viewed this thread notifying users of this promotion
so many could have seen this first; if anything i like that route better, would bring more forum traffic
I think I forgot to mention the Twitter address:

And like IWX says...it's always good to check back here for new announcements. Even if you're just lurking.

Yeah forum bugs like us saw it right away. I think it was up for at least what 15-20 mins? Coyote I'm sure you probably have numbers on how fast it was.
Edit: I forgot I stepped away to do actual work so it was probably longer.
The last order was taken just under 4 hours after the first newsletter was sent. So not lightening fast...but fast enough.
