I recently got this in; today in fact.  I remembver not liking it many years ago when i first played it.  But i figured now since im a bit more of a seasoned gamer, i may like it.  With in 1 minute of play, i can remember why i hated it; oh those awful controls and camera...

now i need the opinions of some of you out there; should i struggle through it as the game des get enjoyable or just put the final nail in the coffin on this game?

i dont only play games that support trophies....

just the vast majority do

If you don't like it right off the bat, well the controls never get better and the camera only gets worse.  The puzzles are also nonsense.

However the STORY and presentation of this game ... top 10 of all time in gaming.  Really emotional stuff.  But "fun to play" is not a phrase I would use to describe SH.  The gameplay is more to keep you busy and immersed in the atmosphere.

The scales of gameplay/story tip in diff directions for diff gamers on diff games, impossible to predict how it will tip for you but if you hate the controls/camera that much I can warn you now, they do not improve.

If you can stand looking at it anymore, it was the best Silent Hill game in the series.

I recently played the directors cut PC version, which I loved. High res textures and great shadowing etc.

Plus you can patch it to widescreen with no weird stretching or anything. I used my 360 pad and had no control issues except for it not rumbling whe I told it to.

That sounds godly, and just makes me even more disappointed with the way consoles panned out this gen.  There is no technical reason why the PS3 could not support a PSN patched version to do the same thing other than Sony is not interested in that type of coolness.  They want to waste time trying to sell games no one wants to buy and waste millions on garbage like HOME.

Imagine patched native widescreen and updated textures for every PS2 game via PSN.. how cool would that be.

That would be great. What's annoying is the other countries even get way more PS originals than the USA. Both Sony and MS don't take advantage of their backcatalog enough. If the do put something out it costs way more than the used hardcopy in a store somehwre and they expect you to bite on their download without it even havin any extras or updated textures or features etc.

oh man that was so scary but my opinion is yes stay with it you will learn to like it i hated the controls for gears at first but then grew to use them well the game silent hill 2 has an awesone story as well.
