A user requested Warcraft 1 - a DOS game, which I sent out promptly.  Apparently, you need the manual to activate the game after installation.  I just received an email notifying me of "Unplayable disc" negative feedback, complete with the guy's fuming comments.  I personally don't think I'm at fault for the inconveniences he mentions - he requested the game disc, and got the game disc; however, I thought I'd ask before doing any conflict resolution or response.

His comments:

“the program crashes as soon as it is installed. i have tried running emulators for dos as well because windows vista does not support dos games entirely. you cannot fully install the game without the manual either, it took me hours to find an online manual, and even then pdf format does not truly take you to the correct page.thanks for sending me something i cant use.”

Dispute it.  They got what they requested.  They should have done some research first to find out if they were requesting what they needed.

I'd dispute it regardless.

However, I spent about 1 min googling and found this, a working link to the manual...

You were pretty clear that it didn't have the manual, and any person worth his salt could have found a patch/crack to get this program working in less time than it took this dude to find a copy of the manual.  However, I'm sure a simple PM to you prior to the negative feedback would have settled this dispute.

btw, I just re-read his response about the 'pdf format not taking you to the right page.'  I can CLEARLY see in the pdf file the ORIGINAL page number.  If this dude can't figure out how to read a pdf file, how on earth is he going to play warcraft?

I thought feedback was permanent and it could not be changed?

I'm new but this thread interests me since it could happen to me in future? Intend to lessen my risk by not accepting disk only trades, but even that won't prevent such situations as this from possibly occuring, even when selecting a full package apparently?

I could be wrong, but it seems both parties may not have acted entirely with "good form"  but only the seller-type person breached actual rules when he sent out a basically useless game? Seems some seasoned members might need a rules refresher now and again... and that too can be looked up on the Internet. The disk on it's own with no booklet-type shipment should not have been sent out for delivery without writing down and including with game shipment any codeword required to play it and doing so is a Goozex no-no, unless I've misunderstood, but I don't think so? Goozex explains this topic and about controllers or other attachments that came with game and are necessary to play it.. Believe they also explain about disclosures required done by seller before shipping a game too?

I could be wrong on this one also, but I don't think the the buyer is required to inform the seller he is about to get bad rep? At least I hope we're not required to, especially when there can be no doubt the person deserves the negetive rep? Since I am a newbie suppose I could be incorrect believing the seller is at fault, but rather than wait for a letter from Goozex, you could check the site info provided and readily available already? Something tells me Goozex is going to let this bad rep stand and I believe it is deservedly so?

Here's some points some of you "experienced" folk haven't considered or bothered to remark on:

It looks as though (since seller did not PM buyer to explain his offer's shortcomings before shipping game - right?) it could be the seller didn't even know the game required a code but then that means he didn't check this game out before sending it, so how could he know if he was definitely sending a usable game? Seller should say so if he isn't sure game works before shipping or keep mum after getting the odd bit of bad rep being careless costs. Seller deprived buyer (I think) deserved opportunity to decline such a sloppy game offering, if he wishes to? Bet seller would cry foul if all he got was comment the disk doesn't work even though it's obvious seller never checked to make sure or he would have included the codeword(s) along with his shipment? I think this seller totally deserves bad rep on this transaction and for more than one reason? Sure, the buyer person could have PM'd the seller before placing negetive rep, even though the seller didn't bother to PM the buyer properly before shipping as per Goozex policies as I understood them, but the seller broke the rules, why should he get a heads up before his "spanking" - should expect one once in awhile when not checking his product out before sending? Seems he was careless and it cost him? Disclosing his uncertainty regarding game quality could have saved him getting any bad rep? Has taught me to load a game and check before shipment now though, or disclose I was either too lazy or unable to, so thanks. I don't think the buyer broke any rules and the seller certainly did - that's my opinion and I am sticking to it and up for a fellow new member? Sending a disk out that can't work without a code is a Goozex no-no, and I believe that is so even if shipment is disk only? Site instruction explains stuff about us being required to write passwords/codes/keys etc. down somewhere on or in shipment that's easy to notice and legibly printed. Goozex also explains about special controllers etc. that came with game having to be included as well. Basically, seems to me Goozex is in business of trading only usable games and is not into parts, accessories and other salvaged remanents and so forth? Maybe someday they can add a "parts" page like Auto Trader has or something? Maybe they already have a forum thread for such? Gee, I forgot all about my old DOS games, wonder if I still have them and if they still work? Anyway, if seller knew code was needed and was too lazy to seek it out himself so he could prepare the shipment properly, as required to, then they never should have listed that game. Seems like sloppy form to me no matter what the exact scenario was? How can you debate rep if you don't even check your games out before you ship them? This seller can't win no matter how this is - either he checked the game out which means he has the code(s) but failed because he didn't include them or he fails qualifying for good rep because he never checked out disk, didn't know it needed a code, doesn't disclose the state of disk is unverified to buyer before shipping, and argues quality when he can't even possibly know for sure?

That I understood the rules to be, it is not buyers fault the game shipped is useless... despite whatever level his DOS recall or knowledge is, he could not use that game because of the seller, in this case, who failed to follow Goozex instruction to be sure to write such things down and include it with game shipment - not send it along afterwards by request if he's be so kind? All games at Goozex are supposed to be usable games when shipped at any of the 3 grades they can be traded in. This seller really wasted the buyers time, and I believe Goozex instructions talks about this too? Why should this buyer be called down for not knowing the game needed codeword? Caveat emptor attitudes are not what I understood Goozex to be about?  It should be seller who wastes the time to seek the codes out or just not list the useless old game for trade. Seller should check his games for trade out or disclose he couldn't be bothered before shipment. Guess us "noobs" are not the only folk to be watchful or suspicious of, huh?

You raise some interesting points.  As I understand it, the issue is not really the code word, as that is easily available for the buyer to find.  There's no mention of a cd key, so the seller did not fail to send that, as mentioned is needed in the goozex rules.  What he didn't send was the manual, because the buyer didn't request it.  Since the buyer has a pdf manual, how is the game unusable due to the secret activation word?

The real reason, it seems, the game is unusable to the buyer, is it is crashing.  It is not the seller's responsibility to ensure the buyer's system is compatible with the game they are requesting.  That'd be like me leaving a negative because I ordered a xbox game that isn't backwards compatible on the 360.  I should have checked the compatibility list first.

Not to mention that the buyer is a complete tool based on his comments to the OP.

Goozex is predicated on the feedback system.  If the dude needed the manual, he just had to PM the seller and get a link to it.  Like I said, I found one for him in about 60 seconds.  He's complaining about the disc crashing, which is certainly NOT the seller's fault.

However, if Goozex is black and white, then the above poster is spot on.  Unfortunately, there's no accounting for douchebagedness.

Goozex just closed the dispute and gave me positive feedback, which I was not at all expecting.  I thought I'd get Neutral at best.  They posted this message:

Buyer: It is Goozex policy that the buyer request games that they can run on their current PC system. We are positively closing the trade. You are welcome to send us the disc for further inspection to see if it can be installed without the manual as you stated in the comments.

Goozex took care of it and surprisingly, they gave me the benefit of the doubt with a Positivie feedback rating.  I was expecting Neutral at the very best.  Thanks for the input folks.  Cheers.
