Kerig:

I watched The Happening tonight.  Nothing really happened.

They should have called it Breaking Wind.  The movie stunk more than me after a night of Mac & Cheese with a tall glass of milk (I'm semi-lactose intolerant).   I don't know what they did to the actors, but everyone including Mark Wahlberg was pretty much giving it the after-school special treatment.  As for Shamalamadingdong saying he wanted his movie to be a "hard R-rating", there were really only about 3 scenes that made me remember it wasn't PG-13.  It mostly felt like a bad made-for-SyFy movie 90% of the time.

The only good thing to come out of that movie was that I was 'fortunate' enough to watch it on opening night in a theater.  It seems our group wasn't alone in our view on the movie (pretty much the same as yours), and after about 30 minutes, every time the 'Happening' happened, the theater burst out in laughter.  It was hilarious.  Even the lawn mower scene got an insane response.

I guess everyone was just trying to have a good time, having otherwise wasted $10 a seat.  It salvaged the experience some in my case.

Watched a couple of movies over the weekend:

The Princess and the Frog - Not terrible but definitely lacked the usual Disney polish.

The Hurt Locker - Intense and well-acted. I'm still not entirely convinced it was Picture of the Year material, but it was definitely worth watching.

My weekend viewings:

Gamer: Horrible, horrible directing. The idea (although overdone) behind the story was well designed, but the acting and camera work left a lot to be desired.

Max Payne: Decent action/mystery flick. The games told the story better, but I thought this was a pretty decent translation to cinema.

So, I love shinobi, I bought it about 2 weeks ago on bluray and the look is fantastic.

Saw Alice in wonderland last night in IMAX 3D...Amazing, I don't think I can ever watch a movie any other way again.  3D has come such a long way, and the movie was earthshatteringly good.  It was bizarre, but not over the top, just like you would expect from Tim Burton.  And to all of the J. Depp haters out there, his mad hatter was simultaneously outrageously funny, and sad, it was perfect, he added so much depth to that character instead of just making him crazy.

I forgot, I also saw Second Skin over the weekend. I found it very interesting but I really wanted to punch Dan Bustard in the face.

I started watching Sorority Row but got about 35 mins into it and turn it off.

I also saw Boondock Saints 2.  In my opinion there was no reason to make a number 2 but it was better than I thought it would be.  It leaves itself open for a third but lets hope they just stop here before it gets dragged out into something that will cheapen the greatness that was the first one.

I watched Zombieland the other night and enjoyed it. The scene with "BM" made me laugh the hardest.

Catastrophic
