I watched Four Christmases last night at the urging of my in-laws who said it was funnier than The Ugly Truth. While it was quite funny, it wasn't funnier than The Ugly Truth. In fact, I actually fell asleep at the end, but that was due to a tough day rather than bad movie. I was actually upset I fell asleep.

Watched the last half of 'You've Got Mail' while doing some work and finishing up some game reviews ... I really liked Sleepless In Seattle, and thought Meg Ryan was cute back in the 80's ... but her Diane Keaton wannabe thing was really annoying here and the entire plotting and writing was quite lame ...

I feel the same way. Sleepless in Seattle is great and I still watch it from time to time. But that charm just didn't carry over to this one.

Anyone ever seen Crossroads with Ralph Macchio and Steve Vai (yes, the mega-guitarist)?  Awesome soundtrack by Ry Cooder!  I saw it when it came out in theaters and several times on cable ...the main attraction for me is the massive guitar 'shreddin' battle between Macchio and Vai (with both parts played by Vai, with Ry Cooder handling the slide guitar bits and most of the in-movie music)

Anyway ... today Penny Arcade used it as fodder for a great analogy ... and if you've seen it, you'll know they nailed it!

Avatar last night. If your planning to see it, see it in IMAX. It will make it 10 times better. After seeing it in IMAX, I couldn't imagine seeing it without it. Even if you saw the normal version, sure it was cool. But you SAW the movie, I was IN it if you know what I mean.

The Princess and the Frog.

An attempt to create a new Disney "Classic" that falls just above "Straight to DVD Release" in quality. You could tell they were really trying hard and for all intents and purposes it was NOT a bad movie. However, there were just so many glaring differences between this movie and classic Disney movies.

If it's a classic, why doesn't it have any catchy, memorable music? There were a couple of catchy songs, but absolutely nothing was memorable.

Why does the film feel like it's 30 minutes too long? The story literally could have been told in about 70-80 minutes but it runs on for 97 minutes and feels long. Disney Classics tend to fall in the 1 hour to hour and a half range -- they're trying too damn hard with this movie, and they just don't get it all right.

It was nice to see them attempt to make a Disney Classic without as much Racial stereotypes as were common, but what a time period and setting to do it in...There were accuracies and inaccuracies, and the inaccuracies at times were big enough to make you think they intentionally did it to make it more surreal. I found it funny that in their attempt to paint less racial stereotypes they ended up making all cajuns look like rednecks with no brain. I won't explain which character this is, because that might be considered a spoiler, but just suffice to say they manage to avoid racial stereotypes for some but not all races involved in the film.

It did feel monumental to see a Disney film starring a strong female african american character who wasn't "talking jive" and all that junk you'll remember from Disney films in the past. However, it wasn't monumental enough to make the film memorable or important enough to me to be considered an "instant classic", which is definitely what Disney is painting this film to be. It's a step in the right direction, and I hope they put more effort in the right places next time out, but this is not the "savior" that Disney makes it out to be.

More amazing than the film to me was the trailers beforehand -- They made another "Cats and Dogs" movie? A sequel to a movie that did so poorly that nobody liked? Really? Actually, incredibly I laughed at one of the scenes in the trailer - which is more than I can say for the entirety of the first movie, so apparently this is better than the first. However...it's still a tired, old, and stupid idea...who gave this the OK? Hmm...

2D Standard version of the movie , your just "seeing" the beauty.

3D Imax version of the movie , you feel like your actually in it because of the 3D effects.

On that note , I saw Avatar earlier today and thought it was pretty good , but not my favorite movie to come out this year. Probably Top 5 though (which may or may not mean that much seeing as how I've seen about 10-12 movies in theaters this year).

Visually movie was fantastic , story wise it was a bit predictable. Lacked Emotional/Personal Connection to the characters.

Saw The Rocker today. Rainn Wilson was kind of funny in it but I think he's better in the Office. Some of the songs in the film were kind of cool too.

Rating: 3/5

My five-year-old son loves that movie. I think it's pretty funny.

Last night, after a wait that seemed like forever, I finally saw Inglourious Basterds.

Review to come in my journal, but to sum it up pretty nicely: It's just as good, if not better than Pulp Fiction.

Watched The Hills Run Red, not bad but not great either.

Decent gore factor kinda makes up for the meh storyline and not-so-believable characters.  Nice little twist here and there but ya kinda see it coming.  Good surprise at the end after a few of the credits.  The acting was actually pretty good so I have to blame the writing for the issue with a couple of the characters not really panning out.

If you're bored and in the mood for some blood and demented "idea" behind a movie then it's worth a watch.

Also, some real nice boobies Big Smile
