I gotta think GTA4 should not be on this list.
Even with all the hype, it's a Grand Theft Auto game, and delivered exactly what you'd expect from one. Garbage.
Lionhead stole 10 bucks from me with Fable2!! I preordered the Limited Edition and I was supposed to get a nice plastic Hobbe figure!! They pulled the plug on the figure and put in some extra mission. They didn't put the extra mission code in some of the game cases, including mine. Well, Lionhead said if you ordered the LE and didn't recieve this extra content code to email them before Dec 31 and you would recieve the extra content code in your e mail. So, all these people e mailed Lionhead to get the code. Yes of course, people who didn't own the LE version were getting this code.........even people who don't even have the game!!!! I emailed them and did not recieve the code. So for 10 bucks I got a "making of" dvd with a video on it of the little plastic Hobbe figure in different world locations. It was some picture contest to do with the Hobbe I didn't get!!! It's a cruel cruel world.
Fable 2 was a complete letdown for me altogether. It probably is the most disappointing game of 08 for me. The limited selection of everything from weapons and magic to clothing had me worried to start and the gameplay did little to salvage what hopes I had for the game.
On the flipside, the game that completely took me off guard would be Army of 2. Not sure if it came out in 08, but man, when I played this with a friend I had the greatest time.

Awe really? Fable II is in my top games of '08 - glitchiness and all complaints aside, it was just so much fun. I became so attached to my dog and characters, and the music, scenery, voice acting (superb!), and writing (hilarious and interesting) were so great.
It was one of the very few RPGs where I really enjoyed doing side quests, and that says a lot. Theres a side quest where you capture a pirate ship in a cave and sail it off, Goonies style. For me, by that quest the game was a done deal and one of my favorites.

I loved Fable II as well. It was a great game I thought, even if it wasn't even as grand as Molyneaux said the first one would be. It did something that Fallout 3 didn't do, that Gears of War 2 did, but only about myself and Dom and ColeTrain... care. It made me care about my surroundings and while it was a great big map to play on overall, it didn't make me confused, unlike Fallout 3.
Several 08 clunkers for me.
1.GTA4. I agree with everyone else, way overhyped. Played it for about 10 hours haven't touched it since.
2.PoP. There seems to be some mixed emotions with this one. Personally, I felt that the story was good, but that was it. There really wasn't any other redeeming gameplay. For me the game became an acheivment hunt, and thats how I always know a game isn't good. I've played Sands of time about 3 or 4 times, won't play this one again. One and done. Boss fights were probably the best gameplay part, I will give the game that, but platforming was easy, almost no other combat in the game to speak of, and collecting Light Seeds? Please, I challenge anyone here to explain to me how THAT was "FUN". Finally, everyone touts the story, but there is such a glaring plothole at the end of the game that dosen't match with the beggining of the story that it made me laugh. (props to my fiance for spotting it though). I won't post it here, but anyone with sharp eyes who has played the game knows.
3.Gears of War2. This one is simple for me. Single player great, and horde mode great. I had a blast playing both. Multiplayer though? Man what a huge letdown. Just a broken unplayable mess. Haven't touched since november.
i'd have to agree with everyone here about GTA IV, granted i didn't go in expecting much either but what a let down....
other games that let me down drastically:
Little Big Planet
Fable II
Lips (yes i know the wife hyped it so much...and bam what a pile of dung this game was)
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.
battlechaser: Lips (yes i know the wife hyped it so much...and bam what a pile of dung this game was)
Well I'm still enjoyin GTA4, but I seem to be the only one.
Lips is not good. Track list = bad. Streamin your own music was implemented horribly. But singstar mostly sucks, too (on the ps3).
I'm not sure why HMX can get really famous songs and bands for DLC, but Singstar continues to release songs in Finnish and Hungarian...
Ha! No, I loved Fable2. Loved it. My disapointment was just not get that extra content. I wanted it really bad and there is no way for me to get it! I guess I didn't explain myself very well.
I must reiterate, after attempting to give this game another shot (post patch) Socom: Confrontation is still as broken a game as it was the day it launched. The servers are a joke. Everyone who bought this game should be given a full refund.
Sony just continues to disappoint.
Not to mention I never thought Id say it, but there is actually an online gaming community worse than Halo.
Assassins Creed for pc without a doubt
SOCOM: Confrontation, hands down.
DeadZone: Assassins Creed for pc without a doubt
Was your problem with the game or the PC port?

I don't even know why people buy those games I stick with good games like Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six
