I looked around a little bit, but didn't see much in the way of a good answer.  What sort of feedback should you leave if you get a game that is scratched up like crazy but appears to run?  I'm not talking one or two minor scratches-- this is the sort of all-over patchwork mess that looks like a CD you left on the floor of your car for a year.  There isn't any unscratched surface.   (What do these people do with their games?)  It seems to run, but there's no way to know that I'll even be able to finish the game.  What should I do?  Positive feedback and hope for the best?  Wait to leave feedback until I've finished the game in a couple of months?

Down load this program, it is free and you can find out in about 10 minutes if the disc is damaged.  That way you don't have to invest the time in playing just to have the game freeze.  Here's the link:  http://www.cdspeed2000.com/

If it plays perfectly, +5 is the worst you can leave.  DO leave a detailed explanation in the comments section though.

You could leave positive feedback with the "Quality is not as good as I expected" caveat too, and mention in the comments that the disc was scratched up.

Does that work with console games too? I've been thinking of picking up used console games cheap and trading them, but I don't have a console so I can't test them.

I have used it on PS1, PS2, and regular xbox.  It's actually a dvd scanner, so when you go NG that's a different sort of disc:-)

Thanks for the heads-up-- that's very handy.  Disc tested error-free despite all the scratches!

That is what I recommend - Goozex is about the games, and if the quality if the game itself has you running disc checkers, it definitely warrants a +5.

A related question for you folks-- how do I make a note of its condition so I don't catch another goozex user off-guard when I send this one back out in a few months?  Is there a way to leave a note on an offer?  Or a way to indicate that it's condition is "scratched to hell but working fine and error-free on a disc scan?"

Definitely contact the user you get the game from to see if they still want it.

Personally, I wouldn't want a game that's way scratched, I'm bad enough with my games, I wouldn't want to cause any more.

Send them a PM before you accept the trade...  it's about the best you can do there, if you are going to try to trade it out.  Just be prepared that it may not run on their system and possibly get you a negative.

Just a heads up the longest you can wait to leave feeback is 20 days after the confirmed trade because on the 21st day the system will leave an automatic positive.

Those 2 programs do help a bit, but be careful. You're checking your disk in your computer, which is ok for a pc game. But console games have their own cd/dvd readers, which could be better or worse than your pc's drive. I've had a situation before (not on goozex, it was a movie) where I tested a movie out with a program on my pc because of scratches and it worked fine, but 2 dvd players (including a ps3) could not read it at one certain part. Just understand that those programs above might not be 100% accurate in all situations.
