I might have stuck with it if I cared to create my own levels, but I want to pay $60 for a game already constructed, not one I construct myself.

Your opinion on the quality of games is marred by that fact that as I type this, Shrek sits on your gamercard as the last game you played. Surprise

The game is charming and delightful, but basically a platformer with MP elements and the creation tools. It has some quite irritating issues, mainly having to do with foreground/background. It is hard for me to explain, but I alwys found myself on the wrong "plane" of the three available, leading to irritation and death. This was not as prevalant early in the game, but more so as you progressed and the difficulty ramped up. I might have stuck with it if I cared to create my own levels, but I want to pay $60 for a game already constructed, not one I construct myself.

Thanks for the thoughts.  Though I have heard reviewers say a nuber of positive things about the single-player platformer, I can't imagine anyone buying this game just for that.  Even if I did have the required PS3, I don't think I'd pick up LBP unless I wanted to create my own levels.  Aside from the difficulties with being at the correct depth to do what you're trying to do, the one complaint I've heard is that the decision to root the game in physics means you don't get the immediate reaction to your button presses that you do with a more traditional platformer.

Still, LBP is pretty much the only PS3 game that is currently out and making me curoius.  If I did break down and buy the system, there are other games I'd probably pick up, such as Ratchet and Clank Future, but I never played any of the previous games, so it's more like "that look like fun" than "I'm so upset that this isn't on a system I own."  I had thought that Lair would be the first game to make me regret not having a PS3, but I think we all know how that story ended.

When the PS3 starts getting Kingdom Hearts games, though, it's going to be really hard on me.

Kingdom Hearts games are due on for the PSP and DS sometime in the near future, but if the Dragon Quest franchise is any indication, SE will go with the console that has a high install base.  They DQIX is due out in the spring of 2009 for the DS and DQX was just named for the Wii.

At first LBP looked like a game i really wanted and considered about trading in the old 360 for a ps3 but the lack of other games  and current price tag of the PS3 made me change my mind.

Do you limit your whoring for achievements to the consoles?  If not, here is a game you may enjoy.

If it was on the 360, I would step away from my computer right now, march down to my local Fred Meyer store (no game stores here, sadly) and fork over $60 for it.

I just won't fork over $400 for a console and then $60 for LBP

Well, the Elite xbox 360 is $400, the same as a PS3, and the PS3 has more features. At the prices the consoles are at right now, unless you're totally ok with buying the Arcade version of the xbox, I don't think there's all that much difference between the prices of the 2.

Having said that, my brother owns a ps3 and has Little Big Planet, and I STILL don't want to play it; it's sitting right there, and I don't really want to bother trying it. It just seems to me that they made a standard platformer, which only Nintendo can get away with these days, and tried to get people with shorter attention spans (i.e. ME) interested in it. For a slower paced game, I would rather just play an RPG. And even when you're done with the game, yeah you can create your own levels, but what are those levels? : just more of the same platforming, just shorter levels. It just doesn't work in my mind, and I don't think it's the kind of game I would sit down and create something for, much less play. My 2 cents.

A recent Kotaku article informed me that LBP has implemented a few updates, including one that's supposed to overhaul the moderation system, including the addition of explanations so that level creators will know why their levels have been taken down.  I don't know if anyone here has had any direct experience with the new moderation system, but hopefully, it will help the whole level sharing feature to run a little more smoothly.

I do hope sales on this game pick up a bit.  Even if I may never own it, I'd rather see an innovative game succeed than underperform, which is only going to lead to more sequels and retreads of already popular games.

I am seriously considering getting the ps3 right now but after reading this I think I will goozex LBP.  I agree with the arguement of not many games (I mainly only want Resistence and Valkerie) but with God of War 3 coming out I think I am going to get it.  For all of you that price is an issue (me included) Sony has a promotion going on right now.  If you sign up for a Playstation credit card before the 31st you get a $150 credit when you buy the PS3 from the sony store OR any authorized Sony reseller.  That includes dell.com.  Dell has 15-20% off electronics (dependant on the week) which includes the PS3.  So you get 15% off of the ps3 which brings it in the $340 range and then the $150 credit from the card so the ps3 turns out to be $190ish

Totally agree with these.

I've been looking for LBP all day today and couldn't find in anywhere.  Sold out at Meijer, Target, Circuit City and Gamestop.   It may not be aq system seller, but people seem to be buying the game, at least.

The problem with that is, the stores are ordering less and less of the game due to its poor sales, so yes stores are sold out, but they only had to sell out of about 4 copies compared to the 20-30 copies something like Gears 2 or Call of Duty W@W takes to sell out.

The initial advertising barrage for this game seems to have subsided.   I haven't seen a commercial for it since before Christmas.  You'd think Sony would want to spend some of that marketing money to promote this.  After all, they spent a lot of cash with all those idiotic empty room commercials last holiday season and now they have an actual game people can play.
